Site Engineer - Construction Projects

About the Role

Joining Amazon's Engineering Team, the Site Engineer will oversee the management and execution of construction projects across industrial developments such as new builds, retrofits, expansions, and remodeling initiatives. The role includes managing the construction of new Fulfillment Centers, Sortation Centers, Delivery Stations, and related support buildings, as well as renovations and tenant improvements at existing sites.

This position requires thorough review of budgets, contractor bids, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders including consultants and contractors. The Site Engineer acts as the primary liaison between Amazon, developers, and general contractors, coordinating construction efforts alongside other teams responsible for equipping and operating facilities.

The role is based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and involves extensive travel within the Middle East, Africa, Turkey, and Russia (MEATR) region, accounting for 40-60% of working time.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage multiple construction projects simultaneously, ranging from minor renovations to large-scale new facilities exceeding $100M in value.
• Advise on schedule, cost, and permitting changes impacting project delivery.
• Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to define construction scopes and support design efforts for new and remodel projects.
• Negotiate contracts and modifications with developers and general contractors, preparing formal documentation as required.
• Oversee site management, planning, subcontractor coordination, and business proposal specifications.
• Monitor project performance using key indicators related to safety, quality, cost, schedule, and sustainability.
• Guide transition processes for base building management and turnover documentation.
• Review design plans and construction activities to ensure compliance with current building standards.
• Conduct critical evaluations of design standards to identify opportunities for value engineering and optimization.
• Assess and analyze cost and schedule change requests from external project teams for validity and impact.
• Lead communications and negotiations with regulatory authorities as necessary.
• Maintain clear, transparent communication across teams throughout project delivery.

Typical Day

Daily duties involve representing Amazon's construction interests, managing project delivery, driving process and safety improvements, mentoring cross-functional teams, and providing expert engineering advice. Activities include site assessments, risk analysis, design reviews, cost and contract negotiations, and stakeholder coordination.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Experience up to 2 years in project supervision, real estate development, or architecture/design.

Preferred Qualifications

• Degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Structural, Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
• Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking at least one of the following languages: French, Polish, Arabic, Turkish, Afrikaans, Zulu, or Portuguese.
