Position Overview
The Shift Supervisor supports the Store Manager by managing daily operations of the thrift store to ensure smooth and continuous service. When not supervising, the role functions as a Sales Associate. This role is based at 145 Goulet Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide friendly and courteous service to customers and donors.
- Safeguard the quality and integrity of all donated merchandise.
- Process sales accurately including cash and debit transactions.
- Contribute toward achieving store budget goals by upholding customer service standards.
- Open and close the store according to procedures, when required.
- Handle donation processing tasks such as loading/unloading, sorting, pricing, packing, and storing inventory.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of stock to assist customer inquiries in person or by phone.
- Monitor store activities to uphold security protocols.
- Organize merchandise safely and assist with stock rotation.
- Help control inventory through proper receiving, sorting, and pricing guided by supervisors.
- Assist in designing attractive store layouts, including window and merchandise displays, ensuring tidiness.
- Replenish stock based on supervisor instructions and remove items from sales floor as directed.
- Maintain sorting and processing standards for all donated items in accordance with quality policies.
- Keep the store clean and orderly, including shelves and floors.
- Follow all store policies and procedures diligently.
- Support inventory counts and reconciliation efforts.
- Deliver excellent service to guests and donors.
- Serve as Team Lead or Acting Supervisor in the Store Manager’s absence.
- Provide on-the-job training and operational guidance to staff when needed.
- Ensure a safe, healthy workplace by adhering to health and safety regulations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- This is a permanent full-time role based in a typical retail store setting.
- Work requires continuous physical activity, including stretching, lifting up to 30 pounds without assistance, bending, twisting, pushing, standing, and walking.
- Regular exposure to dust, fumes, and temperature changes.
- Work involves handling interpersonal conflicts with guests, donors, vendors, and coworkers.
- Tasks vary but may include repetitive activities.
Reporting Relationships
Reports directly to the Store Manager. Does not have direct reports but may supervise associates in Manager’s absence.
Qualifications and Experience
- Completed some high school education.
- Minimum two years’ experience working in a store or warehouse environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively in teams and communicate effectively.
- Physically capable of regularly lifting and moving items weighing up to 30 pounds independently.
- Detail-oriented with strong attention to quality and safety.
- Willingness to support the organization's mission and comply with occupational health and safety regulations.
- Successfully complete required background and screening checks.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $16.00 to $19.89 per hour, with a top rate of $23.86. Actual salary placement depends on market factors, internal equity, and individual skills, experience, and qualifications.
