Role Overview

The Equipment Engineering division seeks an experienced Wafer Fab Automation Engineer who will play a critical role in supporting deployment, integration, and maintaining reliable automation systems in the semiconductor manufacturing environment. This position bridges wafer-fab operations, equipment engineering, and the Automation & Robotics development team, focusing on robotics and Automated Material Handling Systems (AMHS) including overhead transport (OHT) solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the interface between wafer-fab operations and robotics development teams for automation initiatives involving tool-tending robots such as cobots and mobile manipulators.
  • Oversee engineering aspects for robotic automation including integration, programming, troubleshooting, testing, and deployment to enhance system reliability and performance.
  • Provide ownership and continuous support for OHT AMHS infrastructure, monitor system flow and performance, and identify potential bottlenecks or failure points.
  • Manage problem resolution including escalations and root cause analyses for AMHS events while collaborating with vendors on system upgrades and maintenance planning.
  • Work cross-functionally with manufacturing, equipment engineering, and IT/automation partners to align automation technologies to operational needs and translate process workflows into automation specifications.
  • Participate in design reviews, safety evaluations, and installation planning to ensure adherence to standards and safety protocols.
  • Develop technical documentation including system requirements, test plans, bills of materials, and CAD-based interface reviews for mechanical and robotic integrations.
  • Champion process improvements, automation strategies, throughput optimization, and maintain compliance with SEMI standards and ADI engineering practices.
  • Stay current with the latest advancements in automation, AMHS, and semiconductor material handling technologies.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (Ordinary NFQ Level 7 or Honours NFQ Level 8) in Mechatronics, Robotics, Automation, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or related disciplines.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience as a Maintenance Technician or Engineer, preferably in regulated environments or semiconductor equipment maintenance roles.
  • Experience with factory automation systems, robotics, AMHS/OHT systems including academic or industrial exposure.
  • Proficient knowledge of PLC programming, SCADA, HMI, or industrial control systems.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical understanding with the ability to interpret schematics, layouts, and CAD designs.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills combined with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Effective verbal and written communication abilities to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

Desirable Skills

  • Practical experience programming robots or working with robotic manipulators, especially collaborative or mobile robots.
  • Familiarity with OHT AMHS systems, wafer carrier logistics, FOUP handling, and semiconductor logistics management.
  • Experience in equipment maintenance, system diagnostics, and reliability engineering.
  • Exposure to system commissioning, industrial automation integrators, or large-scale industrial system deployment.
