Job Overview
The role involves comprehensive evaluation of unit plot plans concerning equipment installation and coordination with project teams to integrate necessary adjustments. The engineer will review equipment GA drawings from vendors, determine suitable cranage and rigging tools for unloading and erection processes, and verify compatibility between equipment base plates and civil or structural foundations, addressing discrepancies through formal reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Thorough analysis of unit plot plans aligned with equipment erection requirements and provision of feedback to project stakeholders for plan updates.
- Examination of vendor general arrangement (GA) drawings to finalize cranage and rigging tools necessary for equipment handling and assembly.
- Confirmation that base plate specifications match civil and structural drawings; initiating a Site Engineering Request (SER) to resolve mismatches.
- Coordination to finalize material take-offs (MTO), collaborating with material engineers to issue Material Issue Notes (MIN) to contractors for fabrication, and allocating required resources for fabrication and erection tasks.
- Ensuring accuracy of foundation bolt dimensions—including size, pitch, bolt circle diameter (BCD), bolt height, and grout clearance—against vendor drawings before and after foundation casting using templates.
- Inspection and recording of any damage or shortages upon equipment receipt at site, informing lead engineers as necessary.
- Verification of completion of preparatory activities outlined in the rigging scheme, such as ground preparation, clearance for crane and equipment access, and availability of calibrated rigging tools and tackles.
- Conducting frequent safety and procedural discussions (tool room talks) with contractor rigging teams to communicate risks and protective measures.
- Confirming crane placement, rigging accessory selection, and ground preparations adhere strictly to the rigging plan, obtaining necessary clearances from Assistant Manager, Construction Manager, or Lead Engineer based on equipment weight and rigging complexity.
Educational and Experience Requirements
- Possess a Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
- Degree holders should have between 10 to 12 years of relevant experience; Diploma holders should have between 19 to 21 years of experience.
Skills and Competencies
- Understanding of equipment manufacturing standards and codes.
- Ability to measure and verify equipment levels and verticality within defined tolerance limits.
- Familiarity with installation and final alignment processes of rotary equipment.
