Position Overview

This role involves overseeing, planning, and coordinating security operations within a designated division. The Security Sergeant/Supervisor collaborates with other departments, external agencies, and the public while providing high-level assistance to senior supervisory or management personnel. This role is safety sensitive and subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Organize, staff, and manage daily security services, including conducting routine facility inspections.
  • Contribute to the creation and execution of strategic goals, policies, and priorities, recommending and implementing necessary changes.
  • Identify areas for enhancement in service delivery, assess resource requirements, and implement improvements following consultation with management.
  • Supervise and evaluate assigned security personnel, delegate tasks, oversee workflow, and resolve operational challenges.
  • Maintain records of training and recertification for security officers, as well as daily staffing logs for accountability.
  • Ensure security equipment is functioning properly; perform repairs and enforce safe work standards.
  • Oversee secure handling of vaults, cash, fareboxes, and conduct computer-based audits to verify farebox data.
  • Recruit, train, motivate, assess, and discipline security staff as needed, including coordinating training sessions and managing terminations.
  • Assist in budget planning and administration by forecasting needs, monitoring spending, and proposing necessary adjustments.
  • Provide support to the Security Superintendent, attend various committees, and prepare reports and correspondence.
  • Coordinate security efforts with other divisions and external organizations.

Qualifications and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED plus thirty credit hours of college coursework in law enforcement or criminal justice.

  • Valid New Mexico Driver's License or ability to obtain one by hire date.
  • City Operator's Permit (COP) must be secured within six months of employment.
