Job Overview
As an integral part of the school health service team, the School Nurse Assistant will support the 5-19 team in executing the National Child Measuring Programme (NCMP), Hearing and Vision (H&V) screenings, Health Needs Assessment Questionnaires (HNA), and administrative responsibilities for the Single Point of Access (SPA).
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in coordinating, organizing, and uploading NCMP, H&V, and HNA questionnaires, as well as managing data reports and received documents.
- Perform screening and assessments for NCMP, HNA, and H&V, ensuring all data meets Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and disseminate outcome communications to parents/carers within required timelines.
- Maintain effective communication with the school health team and serve as a resource for other health professionals, statutory partners, and external agencies for non-clinical inquiries, carefully handling confidential client information under strict protocols.
- Carry out varied administrative tasks including managing emails, electronic tasks, minute taking, scanning, photocopying, printing, filing, archiving, letter and leaflet preparation, ordering and checking equipment, and supporting training/programme organization.
- Collaborate with schools and professionals to develop and implement programmes aligned with Department of Health regulations, ensuring accurate and timely data collection.
- Support team leaders in recording, processing, and uploading data onto the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) to facilitate annual reporting, and produce outcome correspondence localized with lifestyle programmes.
- Input all relevant data into SystmOne or equivalent systems, maintain school lists and ensure accurate data collection on HSCIC and other platforms.
- Complete general office duties such as mail collection/distribution between school and clinic bases, document shredding, answering calls, and managing messages to support daily operations.
- Identify and report any issues or concerns to line managers for timely resolution.
- Order and monitor stock of health promotion materials relevant to programmes.
- Uphold organisational policies on Child Protection, confidentiality, equality, diversity, and inclusion.
- Attend training, professional forums, team meetings, and maintain records of personal development activities including mentorship and supervision.
- Respond professionally and calmly to challenging situations and liaise with other services, including children’s services, ensuring robust communication concerning child or young person welfare.
- Manage equipment and resource orders as directed by the team leader.
Additional Information
New employees will commence on the first Monday of each month and undergo a comprehensive induction lasting up to two weeks, which includes mandatory training, system training, and equipment allocation. The induction is held at the Trust's head office in Rainham, Essex. The position includes a probationary period except for certain internal candidates.
The role attracts a High Cost Area Supplement of 5% of the basic salary (pro-rated for part-time) for Basildon, Thurrock, Brentwood, Harlow, and Dartford areas.
