About the Role and Company
GFL Environmental invites applications for the position of Scale Attendant at our Swift Current location in Saskatchewan, Canada. As part of Team Green, you will play a key role in supporting environmentally sustainable waste management operations, with a focus on maintaining safety and accuracy in landfill and transfer station weigh-ins.
Primary Responsibilities
- Accurately weigh trucks entering and leaving the landfill or transfer station to ensure proper accounting.
- Manage registration for new trucks and issue appropriate permits.
- Generate precise reports and information for customer billing and management review.
- Verify all haulage and disposal data for third-party truck payments.
- Provide clear instructions regarding special waste disposal in coordination with operators and the Operations Manager.
- Communicate community-related information about the landfill to management.
- Perform daily testing of scales to maintain measurement accuracy.
- Ensure that waste is deposited in correct areas as per grid reports.
- Fulfill environmental compliance responsibilities associated with the role.
- Engage in litter picking and site cleanup activities to maintain the facility.
Qualifications and Skills
- Completion of High School Diploma or GED is required.
- A minimum of one to three months of relevant experience or training preferred.
- Customer service experience is advantageous.
- Competency in basic arithmetic operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to interpret rates, ratios, percentages, and bar graphs.
- Physical ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, talk, hear, and perform occasional lifting up to 10 pounds.
- Visual acuity to see objects at varying distances.
Working Environment
- Frequent exposure to outdoor environmental conditions.
- Regular proximity to moving machinery and airborne particles such as fumes.
- Moderate to loud noise levels are typical on-site.
