Scala Software Engineer

Position Overview

We are looking for a skilled Scala Software Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role demands strong backend development expertise focused on creating robust, scalable systems that enhance digital platforms and solutions for industry-leading products.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate effectively with engineers, product managers, and designers across departments.
• Develop and maintain scalable, high-performance backend systems that fulfill essential business requirements.
• Engage in system design and architecture discussions to shape the technical strategy.
• Ensure high software quality through rigorous code reviews, comprehensive testing, and continuous integration strategies.
• Contribute to fostering an inclusive and positive engineering culture by mentoring peers and sharing knowledge.
• Troubleshoot and resolve challenging technical issues encountered in production environments.
• Create, review, and update technical design documentation, requests for comments, and root cause analyses.
• Commit to ongoing professional growth and mastery of engineering practices and domain-specific knowledge.
• Participate in an on-call schedule to promptly address any system production outages.

Candidate Requirements

• Minimum of five years' professional experience developing applications in Scala, preferably using the Typelevel ecosystem components including Cats, Cats Effect, http4s, fs2, Circe, or alternatively ZIO.
• Alternatively, professional experience in Haskell, PureScript, or similar languages featuring advanced functional effect systems, coupled with enthusiasm to migrate to Scala and Typelevel technologies.
• Demonstrated ability in designing and implementing concurrent applications utilizing modern functional effect paradigms.
• Solid functional programming background emphasizing referential transparency, robust typing, and modular design principles.
• Expertise in architecting, developing, and supporting complex distributed systems on leading cloud platforms.
• Comprehensive understanding of REST API principles along with skills in scalability, fault tolerance, and performance tuning.
• Proven aptitude for end-to-end project ownership and experience mentoring junior engineers.
• Extensive familiarity with production infrastructure management including observability and incident response.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills enabling effective cross-disciplinary collaboration.
• Deep knowledge of engineering best practices and architectural patterns.
• Hands-on experience with AWS cloud infrastructure including computation, storage, and serverless services.
• Experience working with microservices architectures deployed on Kubernetes environments.
• Capability in defining and improving coding standards and operational protocols at a team level.

• Experience setting and evolving team coding standards and operational workflows.
• Advanced expertise in Scala and functional programming methodologies.
