Role overview
Texas A&M University at Qatar’s Mechanical Engineering Program is inviting applications for a full-time, assistant-level faculty appointment focused on robotics and autonomous systems. This is a research-track role with the formal title of Research Assistant Professor and the working title of Engineering Assistant Professor. The program is especially interested in applicants whose expertise includes emerging technologies with both strong theory and practical impact, such as industrial robotics, control, autonomous systems, intelligent robotics for exploration, manufacturing and construction, advanced sensing and actuation, mechatronics, human-machine interaction, and AI applications in robotics and autonomous systems.
Faculty role and expectations
Research-track faculty at TAMUQ are expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, build an independent research program, and contribute through scholarship within the university and the wider discipline.
Appointment details
This is a non-tenure-track appointment with a 9-month academic contract. The expected start date is Spring 2024 or Fall 2024, depending on the candidate’s availability. The selected faculty member will be eligible for a startup package that covers summer salary for three years. After that period, the 9-month appointment continues, and the remaining months may be supported through externally funded grants and/or teaching and service.
Program context
The Mechanical Engineering Program currently has 10 faculty members and a strong commitment to teaching, research, and service. It is supported by modern facilities and instrumentation that advance both educational and research goals. Research support in Qatar is available through the Qatar National Research Fund and industry partnerships. Faculty may also supervise graduate students enrolled in Texas A&M University degree programs.
Strategic research initiative
The program has launched a major research effort in smart and sustainable manufacturing, aimed at advancing the manufacturing sector through sustainability and digital transformation. This initiative connects faculty from College Station and Qatar to pursue impactful collaborative research. About Texas A&M University at Qatar
Texas A&M University at Qatar is a partnership with Qatar Foundation. Established in 2003, it offers Bachelor of Science degrees in Chemical, Electrical and Computer, Mechanical, and Petroleum Engineering, along with a Master’s program in Chemical Engineering. The academic programs are materially identical to those at the College Station main campus, and graduates receive a Texas A&M University diploma. The campus is located in Education City, alongside institutions such as Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, Carnegie Mellon University, Virginia Commonwealth University, Northwestern University and Georgetown University, and has contributed significantly to higher education and cultural development in Qatar.
Compensation and benefits
The university offers a competitive salary package based on rank and experience. The ideal candidate will hold a doctorate in mechanical engineering or a closely related field.
