Job description
Role Overview
The Receivables and Collections Officer will manage and recover overdue payments from both corporate clients and individual members, ensuring timely receipt of premiums while maintaining positive client relations. This role requires a highly organized individual adept at professional communication and adept in account reconciliation and debt recovery procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Initiate proactive communication with corporate and individual clients via telephone, email, and written correspondence to follow up on outstanding invoices and overdue payments.
- Monitor the daily accounts receivable aging report to identify and prioritize delinquent accounts for collection efforts.
- Precisely record and allocate incoming payments to appropriate client accounts, ensuring the accuracy and currency of ledger records.
- Investigate and resolve billing discrepancies, partial payments, or client inquiries that may hinder payment processing.
- Generate weekly and monthly reports detailing collection activities, outstanding debt levels, and accounts at risk for review by the Finance Manager.
- Collaborate closely with Sales and Underwriting teams to confirm accurate invoicing and resolve client issues impacting payments.
- Ensure that all collection practices comply with internal policies, regulatory standards, and accepted accounting principles.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a related discipline.
- At least 2 years of relevant practical experience in accounts receivable management, credit control, or debt collection; insurance sector experience preferred.
- Comprehensive understanding of billing processes and debt collection strategies.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills with professionalism in challenging discussions.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with accounting or CRM software.
- Analytical mindset with effective problem-solving capabilities.
- High ethical standards, persistence, and meticulous attention to detail.
