Job description

Position Overview

The American University of Sharjah is seeking a full-time faculty member at the rank of Professor to serve as Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi Endowed Chair in Women’s Leadership. This prestigious role involves promoting interdisciplinary research, advancing innovative teaching methodologies, and engaging with communities to foster understanding of leadership, gender equity, and empowerment for women. Priority will be given to distinguished academics with a substantial record of research and contributions addressing issues, strategies, and practices relating to women's leadership across various sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and disseminate original research centered on women’s leadership, social justice, and women's roles in multicultural societies, particularly within the UAE and Gulf regions.
  • Lead and cultivate intellectual communities by organizing outreach initiatives such as public discussions, symposiums, and workshops that connect academia and the public.
  • Develop and implement cutting-edge leadership programs designed to empower women by enhancing confidence, influence, and resilience through innovative leadership insights.
  • Promote advocacy for gender equity and women’s issues within the university and broader academic environments.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold a PhD or equivalent terminal degree in disciplines aligned with the university’s academic colleges or schools. A proven record of significant scholarly output and impact in women’s leadership research and teaching excellence is required, coupled with demonstrated leadership skills and familiarity with the regional cultural context. Contributions to undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate, or professional curricula are expected.

Applicants should submit a cover letter (maximum 2 pages) outlining their vision for the chair position, relevant expertise and experience in women’s leadership; a 1-2 page statement on their impact and engagement plans in this field; curriculum vitae including teaching and publication record; a teaching philosophy statement; and a research statement.
