Overview

The Payroll Clerk, reporting to the Payroll Supervisor within the Payroll Department, operates with minimal supervision to manage payments including TTOC/TUC pay, maternity and compassionate leave top-ups, and summer school payments. This role also supports payroll processing for CUPE and teaching staff while collaborating effectively with colleagues and the public.

Key Responsibilities

  • Verify and extend timesheets and related documents for accuracy and proper authorization.
  • Cross-check timesheets and adjustments against payroll edits to ensure correctness.
  • Assist fellow payroll personnel and contribute to project tasks as necessary.
  • Enter and retrieve payroll-related data such as new employee information, status updates, and hours worked using computer systems.
  • Stay current with employee contracts and collective agreements to ensure compliance.
  • Maintain and adjust records for sick leave, salary increments, absences, income tax, and Workers' Compensation Board details.
  • Respond to inquiries and coordinate communication via phone, mail, fax, computer, or in person with staff, external agencies, and the public.
  • Organize and file various materials including timesheets, payroll reports, and memos.
  • Prepare, duplicate, sort, collate, and staple documents as required.

  • Working knowledge of database and computer applications.
  • Keyboarding speed of at least 50 words per minute or proof of equivalent skill.
  • Proficient numeric keypad abilities.
  • Familiarity with payroll systems related to union contracts, statutory regulations, Revenue Canada policies, and Workers' Compensation Board rules.
