Pathology Collector

About the Role

Join QML Pathology as a Pathology Collector in Mackay, Queensland, where you will contribute meaningfully to patient care by collecting blood and other samples with precision and empathy. You will be the initial friendly face during a patient’s health journey, ensuring they feel at ease and confident in the care they receive. This permanent full-time position operates Monday to Friday from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.

Key Duties

• Accurately collect blood and various non-blood specimens with attention to detail.
• Deliver a calm, warm, and professional experience to all patients.
• Prepare and package specimens properly for transport following established procedures.
• Maintain precise records and adhere strictly to required protocols.
• Contribute to the efficient daily functioning of the collection center.

Qualifications and Experience

• Prior experience in pathology collection is an advantage but not mandatory.
• A Certificate III in Pathology Collection is beneficial but not required.
• Experience in healthcare settings such as aged care, disability support, nursing, or customer-focused roles supporting people is highly valued.

Requirements

• Possession of a valid Working With Children Check or willingness to obtain one before starting.
• Compliance with immunisation requirements including providing evidence of Hepatitis B vaccination.

Successful candidates demonstrate genuine empathy and professionalism, strong communication skills to connect and build trust, and meticulous adherence to procedures. The role requires excellent time management, the capability to work both independently and collaboratively, sound judgment, adaptability, initiative, and the ability to operate within scope.

Training

A structured 6-week paid training program is part of the onboarding via the Healius Academy. It includes two weeks of full-time training followed by a minimum of 25 hours weekly, possibly accelerated for those with prior relevant experience.
