Overview
As a Non-Executive Director at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, you will collaborate with the Chair, Executive Directors, and fellow Non-Executive Directors to provide strategic guidance, development, and oversight of the Trust's overall performance. This position offers a vital role in influencing the financial and operational success of a dynamic and ambitious healthcare organisation.
You will take a visible, independent leadership role, particularly as Chair of the Finance and Performance Committee, supporting robust financial stewardship and operational excellence. Key Responsibilities
- Contribute as an equal unitary board member, bringing independent judgement and external perspective to the Board.
- Lead the Finance and Performance Committee, ensuring strong financial oversight and management of performance risks.
- Ensure financial and performance risks are identified, managed, and appropriately escalated.
- Seek assurance regarding internal controls and coordinate with other committees for comprehensive governance.
- Build effective relationships across the Board and executive team while providing constructive challenge and supporting the Trust’s values and objectives.
- Maintain confidentiality, participate in appraisal processes, and comply with Trust policies, regulations, and Constitution.
- Bring senior-level expertise possibly in finance, audit, commerce, legal matters, government, third sector, or healthcare, while not serving solely as a specialist advisor.

Serving over 620,000 people across Luton and Bedfordshire, the Trust employs more than 9,000 staff and offers a wide range of acute and some community services. It received a "Good" rating from the CQC and was formed by merging Bedford and Luton & Dunstable hospitals six years ago.
