About Toronto Nature School
Toronto Nature School is a community dedicated to nature-based learning that inspires curiosity, confidence, and connection. The school provides play-centered, experiential education designed to nurture the whole child and instill a lifelong appreciation for learning and the environment.
Role Overview
We are seeking a passionate and dependable Nature Educator to join our team in Toronto, ON. This full-time position involves working 3 to 6 days weekly, leading outdoor educational activities focused on nature for afterschool and weekend programs. Educators collaborate collectively to design and implement programming tailored to children's interests.
Key Dates and Schedule
- Contract Duration: September 1, 2026 – June 30, 2027
- Program Commencement: September 8, 2026
- Mandatory Training: September 1-2, 2026
The work schedule includes afterschool sessions Monday to Friday from 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM and weekend programs on Saturdays from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM during fall, winter, and spring terms with breaks. Additional optional days include professional activity days, seasonal camps, field trips, and summer camp opportunities.
Compensation
The hourly wage ranges from $19 to $24, dependent on experience and qualifications.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement nature-centered educational activities appropriate for children aged 4-10.
- Work cooperatively with fellow educators to foster a safe, welcoming, and stimulating learning atmosphere.
- Encourage child exploration of natural environments while ensuring safety and promoting independence.
- Support social and emotional development in children through attentive observation and adaptive teaching methods.
- Maintain clear and continuous communication with supervisors and contribute to program documentation.
- Participate in a paid training session prior to program start to prepare for role responsibilities.
Desired Qualifications and Skills
- Experience in outdoor education settings such as forest schools, summer camps, or early childhood programs.
- Familiarity with local plant and animal species is beneficial.
- A strong passion for nature connection, play-based learning, and child-led exploration.
- Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions and manage natural terrain safely.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and classroom management skills are advantageous.
- First Aid and CPR Certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Ability to secure a clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check (or willingness to obtain).
Additional Information
This role requires commitment to outdoor engagement in all seasons including rain, snow, and cold. The position offers potential for expanded hours and roles within camp and field trip programs as the school grows.
