About Rocket Lab

Rocket Lab is a comprehensive space enterprise providing swift launch solutions, full spacecraft design and manufacturing, payloads, and satellite components. Our mission is to democratize access to space, supporting essential scientific exploration, Earth monitoring, national security, climate initiatives, and innovative technology demonstrations worldwide.

Our Electron rocket ranks as the second most frequently launched U.S. rocket annually, having placed over 230 satellites into orbit. We are also developing Neutron, a medium-lift reusable launch vehicle aimed at larger constellation deployment. Our Space Systems division crafts a wide array of satellites and components, some chosen for NASA missions to the Moon and Mars and for use in the James Webb Space Telescope.

About the Role

The Electron team at Rocket Lab is responsible for assembling, testing, and launching the Electron rocket from facilities in New Zealand and the USA. This highly reliable and frequently launched rocket demands a diligent team working efficiently and collaboratively to ensure success.

The Mechanical Production team collaborates closely with test and design engineers to adhere to the highest standards of quality and safety in launch vehicle components. As a Mechanical Assembly Technician, you will receive components from the supply chain and complete their precise assembly and testing before they proceed to the Integration team.

You will perform hands-on tasks using a variety of tools and equipment to support the building, testing, or launching of Rocket Lab's launch vehicles and parts, directly impacting the overall production and launch timetable.

Key Responsibilities and Skills

  • Assemble mechanical components with precision according to stringent quality benchmarks.
  • Operate mechanical, electrical, and automated testing equipment effectively.
  • Maintain compliance with exact cleanliness requirements, especially for oxygen service components.
  • Apply knowledge of industry-standard Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) procedures.
  • Inspect assemblies thoroughly to uphold high workmanship standards.
  • Perform manufacturing tasks including riveting and precision assembly to exact specifications.

Preferred Qualifications and Attributes

  • Trade certification or at least four years of relevant industry experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication capabilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within team environments and independently.
  • Competence in reading and interpreting manufacturing instructions and technical drawings.
  • High levels of personal initiative and work ethic, including willingness to undertake extended hours when needed.
  • Composure under pressure and readiness to embrace responsibility.
  • Proficiency with computers, smartphones, and tablets.

Work Schedule

Positions are available on both day (Monday to Friday, 06:00 to 14:30) and evening (Monday to Thursday, 15:00 to 01:30) shifts.

Additional Information

Rocket Lab fosters a teamwork-driven culture grounded in resilience, innovation, and a dedication to overcoming challenges. Our people support each other, set aside egos, and are committed to timely delivery despite pressures and tight deadlines.

Regulatory and Eligibility Notes

For candidates applying to the U.S. offices, compliance with U.S. Government export controls (such as ITAR) is mandatory. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, refugees/asylees, or eligible for necessary governmental authorizations.

Employment at Rocket Lab is offered equally without regard to race, gender, religion, or other protected characteristics as per applicable laws.

Candidates requiring special accommodations during application or interview for U.S. roles can request assistance via designated contacts.

For New Zealand candidates, mandatory background and nationality checks will precede any offer to ensure compliance with ITAR restrictions. Eligibility is restricted based on citizenships related to Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland, the EU, NATO countries, and similar.
