Overview

The Logistics Manager will oversee extensive import and cross-border logistics activities within the MEA region, specifically managing a large monthly volume exceeding 100 containers (TEU). Responsibilities encompass import/export customs clearance, port handling procedures, and container transportation on land. This role requires frequent collaboration with internal sales teams and key clients to formulate cost-efficient bulk logistics strategies.

Key Duties

  • Manage destination port arrivals, customs documentation, clearance protocols, and container trucking for smooth operation of 100+ containers monthly.
  • Continuously track shipping schedules, yard status, and port operations in real time, resolving customs inspections and cargo holds to prevent delays.
  • Maintain direct communication with shipping lines and carriers, negotiating fee waivers and allocating capacity as necessary.
  • Optimize inland container transport routes and fleet deployments to minimize delays, damage, and rejection of shipments.
  • Provide commercial support by engaging early in major sales negotiations, contributing logistics input, cost estimates, and delivery timelines.
  • Coordinate logistics milestones and promptly manage complex delivery issues with key distributors and VIP clients.
  • Establish and manage a regional network of vendors including trucking fleets, customs brokers, forwarders, and bonded yards, keeping current on customs regulations.
  • Oversee the bulk logistics budget for the region and identify cost-saving measures through vendor negotiations across port operations, clearance, and trucking.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and manage customs risks; develop standardized operational procedures and contingency plans for customs or shipping line disputes.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 years practical logistics management experience in the MEA region, preferably within in-house manufacturing logistics.
  • Proven track record managing 100+ container monthly volumes with expertise in full container load (FCL) import/export processes.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Logistics, Supply Chain, International Trade, or related disciplines.
  • Combined logistics experience across both Africa (mandatory) and the Middle East regions.
  • Strong capability to handle complex, high-pressure operational logistics challenges and achieve timely problem resolution.
  • Experienced in direct negotiations with shipping lines and forwarders around space allocation, demurrage/detention waivers, and claims related to delays.
  • Fluency in English, both spoken and written, with proficiency in conducting business negotiations at executive levels.
