About the Role
KPK Lighting Design, based in Houston, Texas, is a recognized, rapidly expanding design firm seeking a full-time Lighting Designer. This position supports projects spanning high-end multifamily towers, corporate interiors, mixed-use developments, hospitality venues, retail, and restaurants. The role offers flexibility with options for remote work or a hybrid schedule involving two days in the office located in The Woodlands, TX, and three days remote.
Qualifications
- Degree from an accredited institution in Interior Design (with a lighting minor), Architectural Engineering (with lighting emphasis), or Architecture (with a lighting certificate or coursework in progress)
- Between zero to five years of professional experience in architectural lighting design covering interiors, exterior, and landscape settings
- Proven skills in producing lighting fixture schedules, lighting control intent documentation, and riser diagrams
- Experience with construction-phase activities including aiming and dimming during commissioning phases
- Collaborative attitude, willing to contribute to various projects to meet deadlines
- Strong self-motivation, organized, detail-oriented, and eager to expand knowledge
- Effective time management for handling multiple concurrent projects
- Willingness to travel between 10-25% of the time
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, AGi32, Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Office suite, and Bluebeam Revu
Primary Responsibilities
- Engage actively in all stages of lighting design from schematic through construction administration
- Lead lighting design efforts in cooperation with team leadership to align with company design standards and direction
- Develop lighting fixture schedules and accompanying cut-sheet packages using Excel aligned with design goals
- Oversee and verify implementation of schedules and lighting control intents within Revit following company BIM protocols
- Convert redline revisions into AutoCAD or Revit and assist with drafting tasks to meet project deadlines (most documentation is in Revit)
- Participate in weekly team meetings (virtual/in-person) to organize deadlines and workflow in Asana
- Engage with clients through meetings to fulfill project requirements effectively
- Contribute to internal design reviews and redline processes during breakout sessions
- Collaborate with sales representatives to develop cost estimates and finalize schedules
- Manage projects throughout design and construction phases ensuring prompt handling of RFIs, emails, and calls
- Conduct site visits for walkthroughs, final aiming, and dimming as necessary
- Communicate proactively with electricians to achieve precise and efficient aiming within scheduled times
- Keep detailed site documentation including punch lists and final dimming records for project closeout
