Lecturer (Language)

Role overview

This position focuses on teaching and curriculum work in Language and Communication. The lecturer will design learning experiences, prepare teaching materials, and deliver lessons across classroom, online, hybrid, and experiential formats. The work also includes student mentoring, collaboration with external partners, participation in institutional activities, and ongoing support for student growth and success. The role calls for strong subject knowledge, creative teaching methods, comfort with new technologies, and a mindset of continuous learning.

Curriculum design and delivery

• Create, develop, teach, and review Language and Communication modules for both PET and CET learners.
• Develop and teach National Education and Life Skills modules for PET learners.
• Apply instructional design principles and keep the curriculum aligned with academic and industry expectations.

Teaching innovation

• Conduct engaging and experiential lessons in in-person, online, and blended settings.
• Build online learning materials, language proficiency assessments, and self-paced study resources.
• Use generative AI and digital learning tools to strengthen teaching and assessment.

Research and external engagement

• Study current developments in education to improve curriculum quality and effectiveness.
• Review student learning patterns and use the findings to plan focused support.
• Take part in student-industry and community activities that deepen applied learning.

Student guidance and development

• Offer academic advice, career guidance, and pastoral support in an inclusive environment.
• Teach and facilitate NE, Life Skills, and Education & Career Guidance modules.
• Support student development through field trips, industry exposure, and overseas programmes.

Institutional and administrative work

• Contribute to orientation, outreach, and committee activities at the Centre, School, and Polytechnic levels.
• Help drive institutional initiatives that improve student engagement and outcomes.

Profile sought

• A relevant qualification or practical background in English Language, Applied Linguistics, Communication Studies, Mass Communication, or a closely related discipline.
• Teaching experience is an advantage, though it is not mandatory.
• Experience with quantitative and qualitative data analysis is an advantage, though it is not mandatory.
• Strong ability in communication, presentation, and interpersonal engagement.
• Confidence in leading discussions, managing differing views, and assessing arguments.
• Genuine interest in teaching, learning, and working with both youth and adult learners.
• Comfort working as part of a collaborative team in a dynamic setting.
• Familiarity with educational technology, generative AI, and digital learning platforms.
• Leadership or supervisory experience is an advantage, though it is not mandatory.
