About syte and Your Mission

Join syte, a PropTech firm based in Münster, Germany, developing AI-powered software to transform real estate decision-making. Our platform replaces lengthy expert consultations with instant, AI-driven insights, helping project developers, builders, banks, and investors determine what, where, and whether to build, renovate, or acquire properties.

As a Junior Data Engineer, you'll manage end-to-end processing of our production data—from ingestion and extraction through advanced algorithmic processing to deployment. Collaborating closely with the product team, you will identify their data needs and deliver high-quality data. Your focus will be on automating workflows and optimizing efficiency. We handle hundreds of terabytes daily, so scalability and performance are critical.

Responsibilities

  • Expand our data ecosystem by researching and evaluating new sources, managing the full data transformation pipeline from initial download to production-ready formats.
  • Extract insights from complex, multidimensional datasets such as 3D building models and LiDAR point clouds, converting raw geometry into actionable information.
  • Develop self-sustaining data pipelines using Airflow, Dataform, and Python, minimizing manual efforts and enhancing platform reliability.
  • Ensure high data quality by monitoring pipelines, detecting errors, and implementing additional validations.
  • Design and optimize scalable data pipelines on Google Cloud to efficiently process hundreds of terabytes while controlling infrastructure costs.
  • Leverage modern AI tools like Claude Code and Copilot to enhance development and proactively explore new AI applications in data engineering.

Candidate Profile

  • Education: Master's degree in a technical discipline such as Geoinformatics, Computer Science, or Business Informatics.
  • Experience: Ideally, at least two years of full-time professional experience as a Data Engineer or similar, including internships, student jobs, or project work involving relevant tasks.
  • Technical Skills: Practical knowledge of Python, SQL, and Git is essential. Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms—especially Google Cloud—is a plus.
  • Languages: Fluent English and German (C1 level), as English is primary internal communication language, while German is required for handling local data and communications.
  • Passion for Data: Strong dedication to data quality, curiosity for exploring new datasets, and enthusiasm for discovering new data sources.
  • Reliability: Committed to meeting deadlines, taking ownership of outcomes, and proactively communicating issues with contingency plans before deadlines.
  • Domain Interest: Motivated to learn and contribute in the demanding PropTech sector; prior experience is advantageous.
  • Learning Aptitude: Eager to grow rapidly, make significant impact within a fast-growing startup, and stay ahead in technologies such as cloud computing and AI.

Start Date & Location

  • Start: As soon as possible
  • Workplace: Münster, with approximately 2-3 days per week onsite.
