Role Overview

The Business Analytics & Research team sits within NBCUniversal’s Intellectual Property Analytics, Operations, and Technology organization and supports the company’s global content business. The group blends data science, economics, consumer research, and business analytics to study how audiences discover and watch content, assess the business impact of piracy, measure content protection efforts, and spot new risks in the digital media landscape.

The Jr. Data Scientist will contribute to analytical work that supports content protection, distribution, streaming, and broader business strategy across film, television, sports, and direct-to-consumer businesses.

What You’ll Do

  • Work with large, complex datasets to identify patterns in consumer behavior, content usage, piracy trends, and digital distribution.
  • Maintain and improve existing analytical models, reports, dashboards, and research programs, while helping build new capabilities.
  • Help develop and sustain statistical models that estimate the impact of piracy and protection efforts on business performance.
  • Assist with forecasting, risk analysis, title prioritization, and other strategic decision-support tasks.
  • Create recurring reports, dashboards, and data products that deliver timely insights to stakeholders and senior leaders.
  • Run exploratory analyses to better understand piracy drivers, content demand, and audience engagement.
  • Contribute to research projects that combine survey data, behavioral data, business metrics, and piracy datasets to answer strategic questions.
  • Collaborate with research, operations, and technology teams to strengthen data quality, analytical processes, and reporting tools.
  • Turn analytical results into practical business recommendations through presentations, visualizations, and written summaries.
  • Evaluate and experiment with newer methods such as AI, statistical modeling, machine learning, and other emerging data science approaches.
  • Handle ad hoc analysis and special projects for the wider IPAOT organization.

What We’re Looking For

  • A bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Data Science, Computer Science, Operations Research, Social Science, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • At least 2 years of experience using quantitative analysis to solve real problems through academic research, internships, consulting, or professional roles.
  • Strong SQL skills.
  • Hands-on experience with Python, R, or similar analytical programming languages.
  • Understanding of core statistics, including hypothesis testing, regression, experimental design, and predictive modeling.
  • Experience cleaning, checking, and analyzing structured datasets.
  • Ability to explain findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience building dashboards and visualizations in Tableau, Power BI, or comparable tools.
  • Strong analytical judgment, curiosity, and problem-solving ability.
  • Comfort using Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.

Preferred Experience

  • Background in econometrics, causal inference, forecasting, machine learning, or other advanced analytical methods.
  • Exposure to behavioral, consumer, digital media, technology, or content-focused datasets.
  • Familiarity with cloud analytics platforms, data warehousing, or modern data engineering practices.
  • Experience with survey research, experimentation, or consumer insights methods.
  • Working knowledge of media, entertainment, streaming, technology, or digital platform ecosystems.
  • Interest in using AI-assisted tools to improve productivity and analytical workflows.
  • Genuine interest in consumer behavior and decision-making in digital media and technology environments.
  • Interest in content protection, online piracy, cybersecurity, or technology policy.
