Overview

The Instrument & Electrical Reliability Technician plays a crucial role in monitoring the condition of Instrumentation and Electrical (I&E) equipment through specialized test equipment. This position provides essential support to Instrument & Electrical Reliability Engineers by identifying reliability improvements, conducting failure analyses, and ensuring compliance with all statutory and regulatory standards aligned with company policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adhere strictly to safe working practices to prevent unsafe acts by self or supervised contract workers.
  • Assist Instrument & Electrical Reliability Engineers in achieving their business objectives.
  • Perform scheduled condition monitoring and inspections of field equipment timely and accurately.
  • Maintain and calibrate all inspection and test tools at prescribed intervals.
  • Possess detailed knowledge of plant equipment relevant to instrumentation and electrical disciplines, including failure histories and modifications.
  • Support review and improvement of maintenance procedures and Inspection Test and Preventive Maintenance (ITPM) checklists.
  • Update and manage Instrument & Electrical equipment data within SAP and ECM systems.
  • Ensure compliance and currency of MICE/IPS lists according to company procedures.
  • Track and monitor completion and effectiveness of maintenance actions in collaboration with Reliability Engineers.
  • Assist with managing spares data in SAP and its correlation with equipment.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of reliability data, drawings, and reports.
  • Manage and follow up on the closure of Instrument & Electrical Reliability Recommendations.
  • Prepare monthly condition monitoring reports and Asset Integrity performance metrics.
  • Participate in QA/QC audits supporting the Instrument & Electrical Reliability team.
  • Support compliance activities within the Instrument & Electrical Reliability group.
  • Contribute to new and retrofit Instrument & Electrical projects alongside engineers.
  • Demonstrate effective planning, time management, and excellent teamwork coordination.
  • Stay informed about technical modifications and improvements at the plant.
  • Provide support to maintenance technicians in resolving reliability challenges and complex troubleshooting.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement of systems, processes, and practices to enhance productivity and efficiency.
  • Implement all Instrument & Electrical Reliability policies and procedures to maintain consistent and controlled work methods.
  • Ensure compliance with quality, health, safety, security, and environmental procedures to safeguard employees and uphold high-quality service delivery.
  • Prepare accurate monthly reports and metrics to fulfill departmental requirements.
  • Support the development of Qatari nationals, applicable for expatriate employees.

Educational & Professional Requirements

  • Diploma in Instrumentation or Electronics Engineering Technology.
  • At least 3 to 5 years of experience as an Instrument Technician within the Petrochemical or Oil & Gas sector.
  • Preferred experience in senior technical roles in Petrochemical and/or Oil & Gas industries.

Desired Skills & Expertise

  • Hands-on maintenance support experience for field instrumentation and related systems in large-scale process plants.
  • Proficient with electronic field instrumentation including SMART transmitters (Field Bus, 4-20mA, HART), control valves, vibration sensors, online analyzers, custody flow metering, and PLCs.
  • Thorough understanding of P&IDs, instrument loop diagrams, data sheets, junction box layouts, and advanced troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Knowledgeable about hazardous area classifications and instrument selection criteria.
  • Experience developing ITPM plans and job instructions for assigned areas.
  • Competent in managing plant instrumentation spares.
  • Practical experience with Maintenance Management Systems like SAP is preferred.
  • Familiarity with commonly applied international codes and standards.
  • Ability to supervise contractor manpower during project implementation as needed.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office and computer literate, capable of working independently.
