About Principium Psychiatry and Role Overview

Principium Psychiatry, a multi-state mental health service provider specializing in outpatient psychiatric care including various advanced treatments, is seeking a hands-on Director of People Operations. Based in Midtown Manhattan, this full-time, on-site position offers a unique leadership opportunity reporting directly to the Founder and CEO. The role is pivotal in transferring ownership of the people function to strengthen and build infrastructure for ongoing expansion.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the People Operations function as the main internal resource advising senior leadership on workforce and employee matters.
• Manage employee relations including coaching managers, handling workplace issues, investigations, and corrective actions, while ensuring policy consistency and appropriate escalation.
• Oversee payroll workflows, timekeeping, leave management including PTO and sick leave, coordinating with finance and payroll services to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Drive onboarding and offboarding processes for clinical and business teams, ensuring complete documentation, benefits setup, and smooth transitions.
• Administer employee benefits, maintain company policies and handbooks, and ensure compliance across multiple states.
• Partner with leadership on recruitment, workforce planning, compensation design, and help build a robust talent management system.
• Develop reporting on key people metrics such as staffing, attendance, onboarding, and turnover.

Ideal Candidate Profile

• Holds 7 to 12+ years progressive experience in HR or People Operations with broad responsibilities.
• Experienced in developing or improving HR systems and processes with strong judgment on confidentiality, documentation, and escalation protocols.
• Comfortable independently advising executives and managing employee-facing functions.
• Business-oriented and practical communicator able to interact with diverse stakeholders including clinicians, senior leadership, and external vendors.
• Preferably has experience in healthcare or related fields with multi-state operational knowledge.
• Certifications such as PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP are advantageous but not mandatory.

Work Environment and Location

This full-time role is office-based at Principium's Midtown Manhattan location and requires on-site presence Monday through Friday. The nature of the healthcare setting necessitates an in-person People Operations leader to support clinicians, patients, and teams effectively.
