About Arine
Arine, pronounced "uh-reen" and derived from a Basque word meaning "light," is a San Francisco-based healthcare technology and clinical services company focused on optimizing medication management to improve economic and health outcomes. We address the significant problem of medication-related harm and waste estimated at over $528 billion annually in the U.S., combining advanced data science, machine learning, AI, and deep clinical expertise to deliver personalized care plans at scale. Our mission is to enhance care quality and cost-effectiveness for complex patients with multiple medication and provider challenges.
Company Culture and Growth
- Committed to a unified mission driving innovation in medication intelligence
- Making a measurable impact on patient lives, reducing hospitalizations, and lowering care costs
- Backed by leading healthcare investors, managing over 18 million lives
- Recognized as a fast-growing AI company
Role Overview
We seek an experienced HEOR (Health Economics and Outcomes Research) Researcher specializing in medication adherence research. This role involves investigating drivers behind medication adherence and non-adherence, evaluating Arine's intervention programs that aim to reduce healthcare utilization and costs, and supporting quality metrics such as CMS Star Ratings.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute research studies using diverse real-world data sources (pharmacy and medical claims, enrollment, social determinants)
- Develop and analyze multivariable explanatory models to identify adherence drivers and interpret variable effects across populations and programs
- Identify, quantify, and rank intervention opportunities to guide clinical task prioritization based on impact and feasibility
- Assess the effectiveness of programs on adherence, quality, utilization, and cost outcomes using quasi-experimental and descriptive methods
- Ensure data integrity while exploring and validating claims, enrollment, and related datasets
- Translate complex analyses into clear, actionable deliverables for clinical and non-clinical stakeholders
- Present findings to cross-functional teams and executives
- Select appropriate analytic rigor for various research questions and engage in methodological reviews
Research Examples
- Determine key clinical and social factors predicting non-adherence across plans
- Disaggregate reasons for adherence changes including population shifts and policy impacts
- Evaluate the best interventions for improving adherence and reducing costs per member segment
Candidate Profile
- Master's degree (PhD preferred) in Economics, Health Economics, Epidemiology, Statistics, or related quantitative discipline
- Minimum 3 years conducting population-level research with real-world healthcare data
- Proven experience studying medication adherence across commercial, Medicare Advantage, or Medicaid populations
- Proficiency in SQL, R, and Python for data manipulation and analysis
- Strong background in applied statistics, causal inference, and multivariable modeling
- Experience with quasi-experimental designs such as difference-in-differences and matching
- Self-motivated researcher capable of managing multiple projects under uncertainty
- Excellent communication skills for diverse audiences
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of CMS Star Ratings, Part D measures, HEDIS, Medicaid quality metrics
- Understanding of medication classes, clinical contexts, and adherence measurement nuances
- Familiarity with social determinants of health and behavioral health indicators
- Experience delivering client-facing reports and presentations
- Background in managed care, pharmaceuticals, or healthcare technology startups
- Awareness of healthcare data standards (ICD-10, NDC) and survival analysis methods
Advanced Skills (Bonus)
- Expertise in advanced causal inference and quasi-experimental designs beyond standard methods
- Capability to estimate heterogeneous treatment effects and perform subgroup analyses
- Experience connecting adherence to subsequent economic outcomes, modeling cost implications
- Familiarity with cost-effectiveness, budget-impact analysis, and translating quality gains into economics
- Knowledge of experimental design and analysis (A/B testing, randomized rollouts)
Role Scope
- Focus on applied health economics and outcomes research from a quantitative perspective
- Collaboration with clinical experts who provide domain knowledge
- Development of explanatory research and models, not predictive or engineering tasks
- Individual contributor position without direct reports
Remote Work Requirements
- Secure private workspace ensuring confidentiality
- Reliable high-speed internet supporting video and voice calls
- Occasional travel for on-site meetings, interviews, or team events
Compensation and Perks
The position offers an annual salary range of $130,000 to $150,000, with final compensation based on experience, level, and location. Additional benefits and perks accompany this role. Working at Arine provides an engaging opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge healthcare innovation and personal growth alongside experienced clinicians and technologists.
Additional Requirements
