Job Summary
The Healthcare Assistant role involves assisting clients to live safely and comfortably at home. This includes help with personal care tasks such as bathing, dressing, incontinence care, meal preparation, and light housekeeping to promote clients' wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
- Adhere strictly to current health and safety procedures, including patient moving and handling protocols.
- Promptly report any concerns about client welfare or colleague compliance with safe practices to management.
- Identify and report any safeguarding issues or suspicions to supervisors.
- Keep accurate and factual daily records of all tasks performed during each shift.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times regarding client information.
- Attend mandatory training sessions provided by InisCare and work within safe, professional boundaries.
- Perform all client tasks, including medication prompting and personal care, with dignity and respect.
- Support client autonomy and encourage their decision-making.
- Maintain conversational engagement with clients throughout shifts, adapted to their cognitive or verbal abilities, while staying professional.
- Attend scheduled shifts punctually and notify the office promptly if unable to do so; contacting clients directly for absence or lateness is not permitted.
Qualifications and Training
- Possession of QQI Level 5 Healthcare Award or an equivalent qualification.
- Completion of additional mandatory training such as Children’s First, Safeguarding, Dementia Care, GDPR, Infection Prevention and Control, Hand Hygiene, and PPE procedures via HSE LAND and AMRIC platforms.
Skills and Competencies
- Proficiency in basic patient care activities including bathing, dressing, and feeding.
- Ability to assist with client mobility and promote physical exercise.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills including active listening.
- Capability to follow instructions and adhere to protocols precisely.
- Providing companionship and emotional support to clients.
- Familiarity with basic healthcare equipment and devices.
- Effective time management and prioritization of duties.
- Demonstrated empathy, compassion, and responsiveness to emotional needs.
- Teamwork skills supporting a positive healthcare team environment.
- Adaptability to changing client needs and work conditions.
- Commitment to learning and applying new skills and procedures.
- Attention to detail when observing and reporting client conditions.
- Physical stamina for demanding tasks and maintaining a professional appearance.
- Reliability, punctuality, ethical conduct, confidentiality, problem-solving, and critical thinking.
Experience
One year of paid healthcare experience is preferred but not mandatory for candidates holding the QQI Level 5 qualification.
