This position is responsible for ensuring that IT services remain dependable, protected and resilient, while also steering disciplined technology spending, major change delivery, responsible data and AI practices, and technology risk oversight.
The role connects technology priorities with business strategy, customer experience, operating efficiency and regulatory expectations. It works closely with the Botswana Executive Committee and Old Mutual Limited Group Technology to decide what to fund, balance competing priorities, and deliver tangible business outcomes within the company’s architecture, security, governance and platform standards.
Success in this position will be shown through dependable service performance, delivery of priority transformation initiatives, stronger digital and data capability, effective vendor and cost control, lower technology and cyber risk, responsible adoption of AI, and visible value from technology investment.
This role reports to the Botswana Group Chief Executive Officer.
Technology strategy and business alignment
- Shape and execute the country technology strategy, keeping ahead of complex challenges, new opportunities and business requirements, while aligning it to broader corporate direction.
- Convert business strategy into Botswana-specific technology roadmaps that fit the Group’s target architecture, platforms and control standards.
- Develop a long-term enterprise architecture approach that incorporates digital capabilities and supports digital strategy, organisational design, processes and policies.
- Track emerging external trends and technology developments, assess how they may affect the business, and identify where they can create value.
Country IT accountability
- Lead the Botswana IT organisation and its teams, including digital, data, infrastructure and service functions.
- Ensure technology services are stable, secure and resilient enough to support continuity, customer service and employee productivity.
- Own the local IT budget and work to reduce total cost of ownership through prioritised, commercially sound investment decisions.
- Make sure the Botswana technology environment operates within Group architecture, governance, security and platform requirements.
- Give the Executive Committee clear reporting on IT performance, risks, delivery priorities, cost drivers, vendor performance and major technology decisions.
Digital, data, analytics and AI delivery
- Oversee the local build and delivery of digital channels, customer platforms, data pipelines, integration work, analytics enablement, automation and AI-enabled capabilities.
- Make sure digital and data initiatives produce measurable business outcomes such as better customer experience, higher service quality, stronger operational efficiency, improved risk control and revenue support.
- Strengthen data governance through clear ownership, quality controls, secure data handling, regulatory compliance and alignment with Group data standards.
- Ensure AI and automation work is properly governed, assessed for risk, prioritised appropriately and aligned to business value, regulation and Group standards.
- Work with business leaders to identify high-value digital, data, AI and analytics opportunities and turn them into practical delivery plans.
Transformation delivery and business enablement
- Lead key technology and business transformation programmes from start to finish.
- Use technology to improve processes, increase automation and enhance customer experience.
- Partner with business leaders to identify transformation opportunities and convert them into clear delivery roadmaps.
- Ensure change programmes produce measurable gains in efficiency, service quality, risk reduction and revenue support.
- Drive adoption through stakeholder engagement, communication, implementation support and post-launch benefits tracking.
Service operations and vendor management
- Maintain dependable IT service delivery across infrastructure, applications, end-user support, vendor-managed services and platforms.
- Oversee local vendor performance against agreed service levels, contracts, risk obligations and Group governance expectations.
- Work closely with the Group Technology & Operations Governance Lead on incidents, escalations, service performance and alignment matters.
Leadership and capability building
- Build and lead a technology team in Botswana that can support stable operations and deliver transformation, digital, data and AI outcomes.
- Set clear performance expectations and hold the team accountable for delivery, service quality, risk management, stakeholder engagement and commercial discipline.
- Develop capability across technology leadership, service delivery, transformation, digital, data, AI, vendor management, risk and business partnering.
- Build succession depth, local talent strength and sustainable capability aligned to business needs and Group technology direction.
