Freelance Chatbot Developer for WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord Platforms

About Mindrift and the Role

Mindrift is recruiting skilled chatbot developers to contribute to its Tendem project focused on building conversational bots integrated with leading messaging platforms such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, and others. The role, known internally as AI Pilot, involves collaborating with AI Tendem Agents that manage repetitive tasks while you apply your expertise in bot engineering, conversational design, and quality assurance to deliver dependable, user-ready bots. This position is a part-time freelance opportunity offered on a remote basis.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop bots for various messaging platforms including WhatsApp Business API, Telegram Bot API, Discord API, Slack, among others.
• Create and maintain conversational flows, handle dialogue states, and design fallback mechanisms.
• Integrate bots with large language models (LLMs) such as OpenAI or Anthropic to enable natural language responses when suitable.
• Connect bots to backend systems including databases, CRMs, booking and payment systems, and other third-party APIs.
• Manage technical tasks such as handling webhooks, managing rate limits, and working with platform-specific message formats including interactive messages, buttons, and media templates.
• Review and improve AI-generated bot code focusing on reliability, correctness, and error management.
• Implement monitoring, logging, and recovery protocols to ensure bot health in production environments.

Qualifications and Requirements

• A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in backend development, automation, integration, or bot engineering.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related disciplines is advantageous.
• At least 1 year of practical experience in developing bots for at least one major messaging platform (WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, Slack, etc.).
• Proficiency in backend programming languages such as Python or Node.js.
• Experience with RESTful APIs, webhooks, OAuth protocols, and asynchronous request management.
• Knowledge of relational or NoSQL databases used for managing conversation states and user information.
• Familiarity with LLM APIs like OpenAI or Anthropic and conversational prompt design is highly desirable.
• Understanding the constraints and message formatting requirements specific to each messaging platform.
• Hands-on experience with deployment technologies like Docker, serverless environments, VPS, or PaaS platforms.
• Strong attention to detail ensuring bot robustness with no silent failures or broken conversation paths.
• Ability to independently design, develop, and deploy fully functional bots.
• Portfolio demonstrating prior bot development projects is mandatory.
• English language skills at upper-intermediate level (B2) or above.

Work Expectations and Compensation

Expected workload fluctuates between 10 to 20 hours per week during live phases of the Tendem project, with workload dependent on project demands. Compensation can go up to $60 per hour, varying with expertise and contribution pace. Other projects within the platform may offer different pay scales according to their requirements.
