Role Overview
Reporting to the Director of Financial and Sustainability Reporting and regularly collaborating with the CFO, VP of Accounting & Finance, and Corporate Controller, the Financial Accountant plays a critical role in maintaining precise financial records, ensuring adherence to accounting standards, and delivering insightful financial analysis to support organizational decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Compile financial statements such as balance sheets, income statements, cash flow reports, and management summaries on monthly, quarterly, and annual bases.
- Perform account reconciliations and manage month-end and year-end closing activities to guarantee accuracy in financial reports.
- Support internal audits and financial evaluations to detect discrepancies, enhance cost efficiency, and evaluate risks.
- Provide senior management with financial insights and recommendations to assist strategic planning.
- Maintain robust financial controls and contribute to regulatory reporting requirements as necessary.
- Prepare and assess routine general ledger entries and reconciliations, analyze variances, and report on expectation analysis.
- Generate corporate accounting reports, analytical data, and key performance indicators for internal and external stakeholders.
- Act as liaison to external auditors, managing quarterly reviews and the annual audit process.
- Develop detailed technical accounting memoranda addressing complex accounting issues.
- Work collaboratively with departments such as accounts payable and payroll to ensure precise financial postings and oversight of overhead costs.
- Ensure compliance with financial control standards and contribute to continuous enhancements of financial processes.
- Be an active Finance team member by mentoring colleagues, promoting collaborative problem-solving, fulfilling ad-hoc requests, and demonstrating flexibility in task completion.
Candidate Profile
- Possess a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
- Commit to ongoing professional learning through workshops and courses to maintain IFRS proficiency and alignment with prevailing standards.
- Hold a minimum of five years of progressive experience in corporate accounting, reporting, and financial analysis.
- Demonstrate solid expertise in IFRS standards.
- Be proficient with accounting platforms such as NetSuite, SAP, or Oracle alongside advanced Excel capabilities.
- Experienced in preparing financial statements and managing month-end and year-end closing cycles.
- Have experience supporting internal audit functions.
- Skilled in conducting monthly and quarterly variance analysis.
- Exhibit strong analytical abilities and meticulous attention to detail for identifying discrepancies and streamlining processes.
- Possess effective communication skills, adept at engaging with management, auditors, and stakeholders.
- Exemplify excellent organizational and time management skills to meet multiple reporting deadlines.
- Hold a CPA designation.
