Executive Director of Technology Operations

Role overview

This leadership position is accountable for the operational direction, governance, and day-to-day execution of the organization’s technology function. The role keeps technology platforms, infrastructure, delivery processes, and support activities tightly connected to business priorities while maintaining efficiency, security, and scalability.

As a senior link between strategy and execution, this leader will strengthen operational discipline, oversee technology governance, and support digital change initiatives through close collaboration with teams across the business.

Technology operations strategy and execution

Build and execute operating strategies for technology in line with company and technology goals. Convert roadmaps into practical action plans with clear performance outcomes. Raise standards across software delivery, infrastructure, cybersecurity, cloud operations, and IT service delivery. Put governance structures in place to ensure technology initiatives are carried out effectively.

Program and portfolio oversight

Direct the planning, delivery, and completion of enterprise technology programs and projects. Manage portfolios, budgets, staffing, and priorities to increase business impact. Make sure initiatives are completed on schedule, within scope, and within budget. Create executive-level dashboards and reporting tools that show technology performance clearly.

Process improvement and governance

Design, standardize, and maintain operational policies, procedures, and controls for technology teams. Apply established practices across SDLC, DevOps, ITSM, Agile, and project management. Improve productivity through automation and workflow redesign. Ensure adherence to internal controls, governance expectations, and regulatory obligations.

Infrastructure, cloud, and service operations

Lead oversight of enterprise infrastructure, cloud environments, networks, and support services. Maintain high standards for availability, scalability, reliability, and performance. Improve service delivery through monitoring, incident handling, and root-cause resolution. Lead business continuity, disaster recovery, and resilience planning efforts.

Cybersecurity, risk, and compliance

Work alongside cybersecurity teams to safeguard systems, applications, and data. Spot technology-related operational risks and put mitigation plans in place. Ensure alignment with industry regulations, security frameworks, and governance requirements. Set up escalation and risk management processes for critical operational issues.

Analytics, metrics, and reporting

Define and track KPIs, SLAs, and other operational measures for technology. Use analytics to improve efficiency and guide decisions. Develop reporting structures for senior leadership. Drive ongoing improvement based on operational data and business priorities.

Cross-functional alignment

Collaborate with product, engineering, IT, finance, HR, and business leaders to ensure technology operations support organizational goals. Bridge communication between technical and non-technical teams. Contribute to transformation efforts and technology-enabled growth. Coordinate effectively across global technology teams.

Leadership and team development

Lead and develop high-performing technology operations teams. Strengthen leadership depth through succession planning and talent development. Encourage accountability, innovation, operational excellence, and continuous improvement. Build engagement and collaboration across the technology organization.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Business Administration, or a closely related field is required. A master’s degree or MBA is preferred.

Applicants should bring at least 18 years of experience in technology operations, IT management, engineering operations, or similar functions, including 8 or more years in senior leadership positions. Strong experience with large-scale technology organizations, digital transformation, and enterprise operations is expected. Background in software operations, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, and technology governance is important. Experience in multinational organizations or fast-growing technology-led businesses is preferred.
