Overview

This role involves supporting emergency response and firefighting efforts for aircraft incidents at an airport, working closely with the ARFF team and related stakeholders. The professional will ensure readiness through inspections, training, and administrative functions to maintain airport safety standards.

Primary Duties

  • Take part in emergency responses to aircraft incidents, adhering to ARFF procedures and directions given by superiors to maximize firefighter safety and fire suppression efficiency.
  • Respond promptly to fire alarms, aircraft emergencies, and other situations as delegated by the Duty Manager.
  • Perform frequent patrols and inspections to identify any safety hazards across the airport grounds, maintaining a state of readiness throughout shifts.
  • Participate in pre-flight checks of ARFF vehicles and firefighting apparatus, confirming their operational condition for immediate use.
  • Help maintain and replenish firefighting equipment and personal protective gear to guarantee safety during emergencies.
  • Report equipment issues and assist in minor repairs to ensure availability and reliability of all firefighting tools and supplies.
  • Engage actively in fire safety drills and training exercises to hone skills in firefighting, emergency protocols, and collaborative teamwork.
  • Stay informed about ICAO, CAA, and airport safety regulations and assist management in conducting drills with internal and external entities.
  • Coordinate personnel shift schedules and rostering for the ARFF unit.
  • Manage communications with airport departments and external vendors related to fire and rescue operations.
  • Keep the ARFF station clean, organized, and ready for emergency deployment at all times.
  • Support data gathering on ARFF activities including response times, training results, and equipment upkeep for reporting and audit purposes.

Externally interface with DGCA, NDRF, local fire departments, aviation authorities, equipment suppliers, associations, educational bodies, and insurers.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma in Fire Science, Aviation Safety, or a related discipline.
  • Certification in ICAO Firefighting and First Aid/CPR is mandatory.
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of practical experience in Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) operations.
