Job description

Electrical Design & Engineering Implementation

  • Collaborate with process licensors, EPCM, and design teams to execute approved electrical single line diagrams (SLDs), layout plans, control philosophies, and cable routing for Anode Furnace, Casting Wheel, and auxiliary systems.
  • Confirm electrical interfaces compatibility with mechanical systems, instrumentation configurations, and automation logic pertinent to secondary smelting processes.
  • Maintain design alignment with upstream converter systems and downstream refinery/SAP connections.

Electrical Equipment & Vendor Management

  • Assist in finalizing and preparing for execution electrical equipment specifications including furnace transformers, LT/HT panels, MCCs, drives, motors, and automation control panels.
  • Engage in technical bid assessment, vendor communication, and Factory Acceptance Tests for essential electrical components.
  • Monitor manufacturing progress, delivery timelines, and installation preparedness for equipment.

Electrical Construction & Site Supervision

  • Oversee electrical installation tasks such as substations, panels, transformers, cable trays, cabling, terminations, and earthing systems in secondary smelter units.
  • Ensure adherence to correct installation procedures, quality of terminations, earthing continuity, and conformity to approved drawings and method statements.
  • Collaborate with utility and mechanical teams to integrate power supply to furnace units, casting wheel drives, and auxiliary equipment.

Integration with Mechanical & Control Systems

  • Guarantee smooth electrical integration of Anode Furnace and Casting Wheel with drives, interlocks, safety features, and automation controls.
  • Work alongside mechanical and instrumentation teams to resolve interface challenges involving access, alignment, routing, and signal integrity.
  • Validate the effectiveness of protection schemes and interlocks vital for hot metal processes.

Commissioning & Operational Readiness

  • Perform and assist in electrical pre-commissioning activities including insulation resistance testing, relay tests, loop checks, and interlock verification.
  • Manage phased energization aligning with dry-out, heat-up, and initial metal charging schedules.
  • Support trial operations and ensure stabilization for dependable electrical functionality during early anode manufacturing.

Safety & Electrical Compliance

  • Enforce electrical safety procedures like Lockout-Tagout (LOTO), Permit to Work (PTW), arc flash protection, hazardous area standards, and earthing safety.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory electrical standards and internal safety protocols in high-temperature secondary smelting environments.
  • Assist in safety inspections, audits, and implement necessary corrective measures.
