Role overview
Burr Computer Environments, INC is looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer to join its ANZ engineering team in Sydney. This is a practical, delivery-focused position for someone with deep knowledge of power distribution and medium- and low-voltage systems, who can take ownership of electrical design from site investigation through commissioning.
Key responsibilities
- Own electrical design work throughout the full project journey, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems, and carry the work through to a functioning commissioned site.
- Conduct site surveys, identify electrical risks, and prepare early-stage budget and lead-time inputs in coordination with vendors.
- Prepare tender and construction drawings, develop value-engineering options, and compile client approval documents such as system studies, reliability studies, cause-and-effect documentation, RFQ material, and EHS compliance items.
- Work closely with civil, mechanical, architectural, and contractor teams to ensure all MEP elements are aligned and integrated.
- Support commissioning activities, including testing and commissioning plans, site inspections, responses to STQ and RFI items, and as-built document reviews.
- Assess and track consultant design submissions to keep them on schedule with the overall design programme.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required; a master’s degree or additional certifications will be considered an advantage.
- At least 10 years of electrical engineering experience, including a minimum of 5 years focused on data centre design.
- Hands-on experience with design software and analysis tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, PowerCad, ETAP, and SKM.
- Strong understanding of medium-voltage distribution, generators, UPS systems, and transfer switches.
- Experience with short-circuit, coordination, and arc-flash studies aligned to NFPA and IEC standards.
- Working knowledge of MV/LV protection discrimination and interlocking arrangements.
- Strong communication and project management capabilities, with the ability to manage several workstreams and coordinate multiple stakeholders.
