About Us
The TUM Venture Labs represent a nonprofit collaboration between the Technical University of Munich (TUM), a top-ranked European technical university, and UnternehmerTUM, a leading innovation and business creation center in Europe. Our aim is to establish the foremost hub for deep-tech and life-science entrepreneurship in Europe. Within our specialized labs, we empower innovative high-tech startups from ideation through to investor readiness, providing access to research infrastructure, industry collaborations, mentorship, and customized development programs.
Manufacturing is fundamental to Europe's economy and a vital component for industrial sovereignty and resilient supply chains. The TUM Venture Lab AM, situated within the TUM ecosystem and headquartered at the TUM-Oerlikon Advanced Manufacturing Institute in Garching with academic guidance by Prof. Peter Mayr, Chair of Materials Engineering of Additive Manufacturing, is playing a leading role in advancing this sector.
Your Mission
As Director of Additive & Advanced Manufacturing, you will:
- Lead the TUM Venture Lab AM strategically and operationally in close partnership with the Managing Director and your team, pushing forward the lab’s vision and growth.
- Drive the expansion of Europe's premier manufacturing startup community, supporting both creators of innovative solutions and users of manufacturing technologies.
- Guide technology-centered founding teams from concept to market entry, developing specialized programs and formats that effectively advance deep-tech ventures in additive manufacturing.
- Forge and expand connections among research institutions, industry collaborators, funding bodies, and investors, enabling science-based spin-offs and enhancing the ecosystem with expert mentorship and resources.
- Continuously scout for emerging technological trends and identify new growth avenues, adopting a cross-disciplinary approach aligned with the "One Venture Lab" principle.
Candidate Profile
- Educational background in Mechanical Engineering, Production Technology, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline; a doctoral degree is advantageous.
- Expertise and hands-on experience in Additive Manufacturing, AI applied to Engineering, and building hardware systems.
- Established leadership experience, ideally combined with entrepreneurial insight obtained via founding startups, venture capital involvement, or roles within early-stage startups.
- A passion for entrepreneurship with a drive to translate technological advances into practical, impactful outcomes.
- Exceptional networking skills that enable effortless connection of people and ideas.
- Strong organizational capability, ownership mindset, and leadership approach characterized by clarity, empathy, and respectful communication.
- Fluency in both German and English for professional communication, presentations, and stakeholder engagement.
- A proactive builder mindset, demonstrating persistence until tangible results are achieved.
