Role overview

Crate & Barrel is looking for a Designer in West Palm Beach, Florida who can inspire customers with modern home design ideas and help them turn those ideas into practical room solutions. This position is centered on building strong customer relationships, offering style guidance across a variety of aesthetics, and using digital design tools to support both in-store and in-home consultations.

The role combines creative design work with sales responsibility. You will be expected to engage customers on the sales floor, generate interest in design services and loyalty programs, follow up promptly on leads, and create design proposals that align with brand standards. Success in this role also depends on keeping product displays polished, using store tools and technology accurately, and working closely with store and design teams to support overall business objectives.

What you will do

• Provide engaging customer experiences that support sales and showcase design services in store, in the customer’s home, and through virtual consultations.
• Prepare customer-facing design solutions using approved design software, including mood boards, 2D and 3D layouts, product selections, and presentation materials.
• Run design consultations in person, by phone, over email, and through virtual meetings.
• Complete projects on schedule and within the expected turnaround times.
• Maintain a strong understanding of the brand’s visual direction and merchandising approach across store, e-commerce, and catalog channels.
• Stay informed about product details, care instructions, competitor offerings, and broader industry trends.
• Meet individual goals for sales, KPIs, service quality, and productivity while actively supporting customer engagement on the sales floor.
• Listen carefully to customer needs and recommend products and services that fit those needs, including loyalty offerings such as designer rewards, the Design Trade Program, and credit card options.
• Deliver courteous, fast, and efficient service with a positive, enthusiastic attitude.
• Help train store teams on design services and offerings so the value of those services is clearly understood.
• Build repeat business by networking and maintaining long-term client relationships.
• Use knowledge of spatial planning, fabric selection, lighting, and interior design styles to guide customer solutions.
• Communicate clearly and promptly, translating both the brand’s vision and the customer’s needs into effective design recommendations.
• Work comfortably with technology such as 2D/3D tools, Google Workspace, video conferencing, and iPad-based tools, while being competent in floor planning.
• Keep current with design trends and adapt quickly as business needs change.

Qualifications and experience

• At least 1 year of relevant experience in furniture sales, home decor design, retail, or customer service.
• Experience working directly with clients and recommending appropriate solutions.
• Strong familiarity with Google platforms and virtual communication tools; experience with design software is preferred.
• Solid understanding of fundamental design concepts such as space planning, fabrics, lighting, and interior design styles.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to connect the brand’s vision with customer preferences and requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to build lasting customer relationships.
