Role Overview
The Design Engineer will lead the design and development of new products, prototypes, costing models, and qualification procedures, mainly targeting the data centre industry but also contributing to emerging sectors such as indoor agriculture and corrections, especially those involving factory fabrication processes. Collaboration with the business development team is essential to identify emerging opportunities and to create conceptual designs and drawings for client presentations. Strong coordination with the Manufacturing department is required to ensure designs are practical, energy-efficient, and cost-effective.
Key Responsibilities
- Create detailed 3D layouts, schematic designs, and conduct cost estimation for mechanical plant components targeting the data centre industry.
- Prepare and deliver comprehensive quotations, bills of materials, and product specifications to customers and for tender processes.
- Engage with third-party suppliers to request and evaluate quotations.
- Support internal project teams by providing variation cost analysis and cost data for ongoing projects.
- Track and uphold company Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Collaborate with Kingspan commercial teams by supplying information for annual budgets and project performance reviews.
- Ensure compliance with ISO9001, ISO14001, and other applicable quality and environmental standards.
- Act as a primary contact and expert resource for multi-tier data centre clients, end users, developers, architects, engineers, main contractors, and subcontractors.
- Develop design packages that leverage Kingspan’s comprehensive product range across different divisions for data centre applications.
- Contribute to shaping the future strategies of Kingspan Tate.
- Incorporate the Planet Passionate sustainability message in all communications with customers and data centre stakeholders.
- Manage sensitive and confidential information to support the rapidly evolving organization.
- Assist ongoing process improvement initiatives by providing accurate, meaningful data to enhance operational functions.
Qualifications & Experience
- Educational background including HNC, Degree, or Postgraduate Degree in Building Services Engineering or a related field.
- 3 to 5 years of experience involving CAD design and cost estimating within a manufacturing environment.
- Preferred experience or exposure to Data Centres or critical facility environments.
Key Skills
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and quality control standards.
- Proven capability in new product development from initial concept through prototype to production.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
- Excellent organization skills with the capacity to set objectives and efficiently prioritize workload independently.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-moving environment while collaborating with sales, customer service, purchasing, manufacturing, engineering, quality, and marketing teams.
