Data Scientist / AI Modeler

Overview

We are looking for an experienced Data Scientist / AI Modeler to join our team working remotely from Tysons, VA. This full-time position involves developing AI-powered features tailored for both mobile and web platforms by selecting, fine-tuning, and embedding pre-trained models into scalable architectures such as standalone services, microservices, or compact models for mobile use. Close collaboration with product and development teams is essential to craft AI solutions that fulfill diverse customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Select and evaluate suitable pre-trained AI models tailored to various client scenarios, ensuring performance and task suitability.
• Customize and adjust pre-existing AI models to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and scalability within target applications.
• Work alongside software engineering teams to embed AI models into diverse applications as standalone services, microservices, or mobile-compatible lightweight versions.
• Continuously update knowledge on cutting-edge advancements in AI, machine learning, and deep learning to innovate new solutions.
• Design and execute experiments for model testing, validation, and performance comparison using Python, Jupyter Notebooks, and related technologies.
• Implement Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems to improve AI outputs by blending traditional search techniques with generated content.
• Tune models to optimize for low latency, faster inference, and reduced resource use.
• Create thorough testing methodologies to ensure AI model reliability and production readiness.
• Partner effectively with interdisciplinary teams including product managers and UX/UI designers to deliver enhanced AI-driven user experiences.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation detailing model selection decisions, tuning settings, and integration workflows; communicate project progression to stakeholders.
• Continuously monitor deployed AI models post-release, making necessary refinements to maximize performance.

Required Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, AI, or a related discipline (Bachelor’s or Master’s preferred, Ph.D. a bonus).
• At least 3 years' experience in a Data Scientist or AI Modeler role with demonstrated ability to deploy AI systems in production.
• Proficient in Python and familiar with major machine learning libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and Scikit-learn.
• Experienced using Jupyter Notebooks for data manipulation, model testing, and visualization tasks.
• Knowledgeable in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and deploying AI models within these environments.
• Skilled in fine-tuning pre-trained models for use in NLP, computer vision, and other AI-related applications.
• Strong grasp of validation techniques, including cross-validation, A/B testing, and statistical methods.
• Experience in designing and implementing Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) frameworks.
• Familiar with version control using Git and related tools.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with a focus on AI model performance and scalability.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, enabling effective teamwork across multiple departments.
• Detail-oriented and dedicated to delivering robust, high-quality AI solutions.
• Self-directed, able to juggle multiple projects simultaneously and meet established deadlines.
