Role Overview

The Crisis Transporter plays a vital role in ensuring the secure, punctual, and dignified transportation of individuals experiencing crises. The individual will transfer clients safely from community venues, hospital environments, or emergency scenes to the agency's crisis center. Responsibilities include maintaining confidentiality, vehicle upkeep, adherence to safety protocols, and collaborating with community stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Transport individuals in crisis safely and timely from various locations to the crisis center.
• Act as a communication point between hospitals, emergency medical services, law enforcement, and crisis service teams.
• Maintain thorough and accurate logs of vehicle use, maintenance, and trip details.
• Utilize scheduling and routing software to optimize transport efficiency.
• Adhere strictly to organizational policies on safety and client confidentiality.
• Perform vehicle inspections before and after trips and report any issues urgently.
• Document all client interactions and transport activities diligently.

Accessibility and Vehicle Operation

• Safely operate ADA-compliant vehicles following legal and agency regulations.
• Secure wheelchairs properly using approved systems and carefully operate ramps and lifts.
• Aid clients with mobility challenges respectfully while ensuring correct usage of safety restraints.
• Inspect ADA equipment’s functionality before and after transportation.
• Ensure passenger safety with proper seatbelt and restraint application.
• Monitor clients’ condition during transport and apply de-escalation techniques when necessary.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of vehicles and report maintenance needs immediately.

Facility Support Duties

• Assist with client intake and discharge processes within the crisis facility.
• Provide non-clinical support and help with client movements inside the facility.
• Maintain readiness for transport duties and coordinate logistics with crisis staff.
• Engage in light administrative tasks during periods of inactivity.
• Participate actively in team meetings, trainings, and emergency drills.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED certification.
• Clean driving record with a valid driver’s license.
• Preferred background in transportation, behavioral health, social services, or emergency fields.
• Ability to operate ADA-equipped vehicles; training provided if necessary.
• Basic proficiency with computers and scheduling software.
• Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.

Preferred Credentials

• CPR and First Aid certification.
• Training in crisis intervention or de-escalation.
• Experience working with clients in behavioral or crisis health environments.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to assist clients with mobility, operate wheelchair lifts and securement devices.
• Capacity to sit, stand, bend, and lift weights up to 50 pounds as needed.
