About the Role

Eco-Business is seeking a skilled journalist to become part of our editorial team to deliver daily content focusing on sustainable development trends and news in the Asia Pacific region. Based in Malaysia, the correspondent will cover business and policy news with a regional emphasis. This full-time position demands solid newsroom experience and excellent command of written and spoken English. Preference will be given to candidates with strong expertise in energy and finance sectors and editorial project management capabilities. Those with proven backgrounds in business and policy journalism will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gather news items, conduct interviews, and actively participate in editorial content planning, including pitching and producing timely news and feature stories tailored to Eco-Business's audience.
  • Create and submit assigned stories across multiple formats, utilizing AI-enabled content tools while adhering to editorial guidelines and quality standards.
  • Generate and manage content pertaining to sustainable development topics and trends in the Asia Pacific across various platforms.
  • Collaborate with internal teams in producing thought leadership content when necessary.
  • Develop comprehensive, insightful investigative stories with significant impact.
  • Establish and nurture a robust network of sources across relevant industries.
  • Handle social media publishing and moderation for your stories.
  • Coordinate opinion piece sourcing and republication, maintain content partnerships, evaluate editorial submissions for the Opinions section, and perform necessary editing.
  • Provide editorial support including drafting press releases, marketing materials, event reports, newsletters, and proofreading for team projects and events in the region.
  • Travel occasionally as per job requirements.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Demonstrated passion for sustainable development.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Environmental Studies, or related disciplines.
  • At least 2 years of journalism experience within a reputable media organization or a strong freelance portfolio involving recognized publications. Preference for candidates with experience in business and sustainability coverage or analysis.
  • Proven ability to produce original, top-quality stories and adeptness at content promotion across digital channels.
  • Expertise in simplifying complicated topics into clear, engaging narratives.
  • Capable of managing various tasks efficiently under strict deadlines.
  • Strong adherence to journalistic ethics and editorial principles.
  • Self-motivated and autonomous with minimal supervision required.
  • Team-oriented individual who is eager to learn and develop further.
  • Additional proficiency in an Asian language is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of multimedia tools such as photography and videography and familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, HTML/CSS, social media, or project management platforms is a plus.
  • Understanding of the Eco-Business brand and editorial mission.
