About the Role
Kohl & Cook Law Firm LLC, an expanding civil litigation legal practice in Ohio serving Dayton, Centerville, Columbus, and Central Ohio areas, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Civil Litigation Paralegal. Our firm aids consumers, homeowners, small businesses, and individuals in a variety of civil matters including consumer protection, real estate disagreements, foreclosure defense, construction law cases, contract issues, and additional complex civil disputes.
Job Responsibilities
- Maintain attorney calendars and case files, carefully monitoring deadlines and ensuring all filings occur promptly.
- Produce, revise, and format various legal documents such as pleadings, motions, discovery materials, affidavits, and others for attorney approval.
- File court documents accurately in both Federal and Ohio state courts.
- Organize and archive evidence and case documents following the firm’s established naming and document management protocols.
- Communicate professionally with clients, colleagues, opposing counsel, and court personnel through multiple channels including phone, email, and personal meetings.
- Support attorneys in preparation for trials, hearings, and depositions, including assembling exhibit binders and coordinating with witnesses.
- Track and record billable hours associated with specific cases.
- Assist the office manager with administrative matters pertaining to the firm’s Columbus office.
- Handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are consistently met.
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of three years’ experience as a paralegal or legal assistant, preferably within civil litigation.
- Completion of an associate degree in paralegal studies, paralegal certificate, or equivalent qualifications.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, as well as PDF editing software.
- Strong communication abilities and excellent proofreading skills.
- Experience with electronic filing in Ohio state courts.
- Exceptional attention to detail coupled with outstanding organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize effectively, and maintain a positive, professional team-oriented attitude.
