About the Role and Team
This position is based within the Food Services Department at the Royal Hobart Hospital, supporting a team dedicated to preparing and delivering meals to patients, visitors, and clients. The Catering Clerk plays a vital administrative role to ensure smooth service operations with focus on customer service and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clerical and administrative support maintaining high standards focused on customer service.
- Adhere to hospital policies, procedures, and confidentiality requirements at all times.
- Manage information systems and perform processes according to departmental guidelines and protocols.
- Coordinate patient menu organization to ensure alignment with prescribed diet lists.
Experience and Skills Required
- Prior experience in administrative roles, ideally in hospital or healthcare settings, with solid understanding of relevant policies, legislation, and workplace guidelines.
- Strong verbal and written communication capabilities and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with staff across levels and the public.
- Demonstrated flexibility and customer-focused approach within a collaborative, innovative team environment, with ability to prioritize and problem-solve workflow demands.
- Competence in the use of computer-based information management systems and Microsoft Office applications including word processing and spreadsheets, with skills to create basic reports as needed.
Employment Details
- This is a permanent, full-time day role, working a total of 76 hours across fortnightly schedule.
- Working hours are Monday to Friday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
- The role does not include weekend shifts but requires working on public holidays.
- Applicants should be prepared for potential future employment in similar full-time, part-time, or casual roles based on this selection process for a period of twelve months.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range between $68,854 and $73,947 per annum, with an additional employer superannuation contribution of 12%.

Eligibility and Additional Information
- Completion or willingness to undertake a recognized business or office administration qualification is desirable.
- Previous experience working in healthcare environments is preferable.
