Role Overview

The Business Development Associate operates within the Canadian market to stimulate new business opportunities by sourcing and securing corporate and institutional clients. This role emphasizes high-volume outbound sales activities alongside strict compliance with regulatory standards, risk mitigation, and thorough client due diligence. The incumbent must exhibit resilience, commercial insight, and meticulous pipeline and regulatory management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify potential clients through comprehensive research to generate new business leads.
  • Perform a high quantity of outbound sales calls averaging 80 calls daily with at least 90 minutes of talk time.
  • Create and nurture lasting relationships with key decision-makers using channel strategies such as cold calling and email campaigns.
  • Partner with management to present Monex's FX products, highlighting distinct value propositions to prospective clients.
  • Collaborate internally with sales, marketing, and research teams to formulate and implement sales strategies.
  • Monitor industry conditions, competitive actions, and regulation changes to anticipate market risks and prospects.
  • Deliver periodic reports on sales progress, including pipeline status, revenue predictions, and achievement of sales benchmarks.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the FX market and evolving industry practices through continuous learning and engagement.
  • Ensure client interaction records are meticulously maintained adhering to PIPEDA standards.
  • Conduct detailed research to accurately assess client requirements ensuring service quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Verify client authenticity to prevent entry of fraudulent entities into the client base.
  • Collaborate with Financial Crime and Regulatory Compliance teams to ensure client onboarding aligns with corporate and Canadian regulatory frameworks.
  • Ensure comprehensive Know Your Customer (KYC) practices to deliver appropriate services.
  • Engage with internal risk and trading teams on margin facilities and related issues.
  • Uphold Monex's policies and procedures, including complaint handling, conflict of interest management, and adherence to Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Anti-Terrorist Financing (ATF) regulations.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Demonstrated success in B2B sales, business development, or account management roles, preferably in financial services or foreign exchange.
  • Proven ability to meet set outbound call and talk time targets consistently.
  • Strong skills in building relationships, negotiation, and client presentations.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, particularly in client onboarding, KYC compliance, and documentation accuracy.
  • Capacity to work collaboratively across sales, compliance, risk, and trading departments.
  • High ethical standards and sound judgment when navigating conflicts of interest and regulatory duties.
  • Experience in FX, treasury, or corporate banking is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of Canadian PIPEDA data privacy laws and AML/ATF regulations is beneficial.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM/database management systems.
