Job description
Role Overview
As a Breeding Technician at Enza Zaden located in Narromine, NSW, you will assist in the preparation and implementation of breeding programs within a designated geographic area. This operational role involves working under the direct supervision of the Team Lead Breeding Support Unit to support various tasks in seed and disease testing processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare seed lots essential for breeding and screening trials.
- Assist with sowing, observing germination rates, pricking out seedlings, and planting activities.
- Carry out crossing programs as directed by the (Assistant) Breeder.
- Support routine seed preparation for disease tests in collaboration with the Routine Disease Testing team.
- Perform routine leaf sampling for disease control analysis in the laboratory and marker testing.
- Manage administrative tasks related to disease and marker test results and seed lot documentation.
Work Environment
- Operate in both climate-controlled environments and outdoor locations subject to varying weather and high temperatures.
- Engage in tasks that may involve repetitive motions.
Interactions and Reporting
- Primarily interact with Breeding Technicians for cooperative tasks and follow instructions from the Assistant Breeder.
- This position has no direct or indirect reporting lines and does not involve financial responsibilities.
Qualifications and Skills
- Completion of secondary education (high school).
- No prior experience required.
- Basic proficiency using MS Office applications.
- Computer literacy with a general ability to operate relevant systems.
- Preferred basic communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
