About the role
Hey Jane is hiring a Billing Specialist to support the expansion of payer partnerships, with a strong focus on Medicaid. The role is ideal for someone highly organized, meticulous, and comfortable working in a changing environment where smooth billing operations directly help more patients receive care with lower out-of-pocket costs.
Hey Jane provides reproductive and sexual health services through a virtual care model, supported by an internal clinical team of doctors, advanced practice clinicians, nurses, and patient care advocates. The company has already supported more than 100,000 people and is committed to delivering safe, discreet, judgment-free care.
This position sits at the center of clinical, operations, and third-party billing coordination. You will help ensure claims are processed correctly, billing issues are resolved quickly, and compliance with coding and reimbursement requirements is maintained so administrative barriers do not delay patient care.

- Respond to patients with guidance on insurance coverage, financial assistance options, and billing questions.
- Handle invoicing and reimbursement processes for abortion funds.
- Keep billing records and supporting documentation complete, accurate, and well organized.
- Create and review reports to measure billing results and identify improvement opportunities.
- Help launch new payer relationships by coordinating billing and coding workflows with internal and external partners.
- Stay current on billing and coding rules, insurance updates, fee schedules, and reimbursement changes.
- Take on additional billing-related duties as needed.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of experience in billing within a healthcare environment, ideally in telehealth.
- Strong working knowledge of Medicaid billing rules, including state-by-state reimbursement requirements and eligibility checks.
- Solid command of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding, especially for abortion care and sexual and reproductive health services.
- Demonstrated experience managing the end-to-end claims process, including filing, denials, and appeals.
- Practical experience using EHR and revenue cycle management systems.
- Clear understanding of HIPAA and a strong commitment to protecting patient privacy.
- High attention to detail and strong accuracy.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, insurers, and internal teams.
- Comfort working in Excel or Google Sheets.
- Capability to work independently in a fast-moving setting.
- Strong planning, organization, and time management skills.
