Role Overview

As a Bakers Helper at Safeway's New Westminster location, you will support the Bakery team by assisting experienced staff in producing high-quality baked goods including Artisan breads, pastries, cookies, and muffins. This role offers a blend of creativity and customer interaction within a fast-paced food retail environment.

Key Duties

• Adhere strictly to company policies, standards, and procedures in all tasks.
• Warmly greet and assist customers, delivering excellent service in line with Safeway's customer care programs.
• Operate bakery equipment such as mixers, commercial ovens, and donut fryers efficiently.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitary conditions of bakery tools and equipment.
• Manage order writing for bakery production.
• Participate in daily baking production and ensure timely filling of bakery showcases.
• Receive and rotate bakery stock to ensure freshness.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Prior experience in bakery operations is advantageous but not mandatory.
• Quick learner with the ability to adapt swiftly to bakery processes.
• Maintain productivity and composure in a high-speed work environment.
• Strong teamwork ethic and highly motivated.
• Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
• Dedication to delivering outstanding customer service.
• Commitment to workplace safety standards.
• Availability for flexible work hours including evenings and weekends; Sunday shifts especially encouraged in Alberta.

Physical Demands

• Frequent lifting of items up to 20 pounds.
• Frequent activities involving hand coordination, bending, pushing, pulling, and twisting.
• Occasional lifting of 20–50 pounds at waist and low levels.
• Continuous standing, walking, gripping, and reaching during shifts.
