Position Overview

The Sanitation Associate, reporting to a Team Lead or Supervisor, is responsible for performing routine cleaning duties that uphold hygiene standards and ensure compliance within production zones. The role includes cleaning floors, walls, equipment, and waste management using industrial tools and established methods. Supporting Sanitation Technicians with straightforward tasks and contributing to the Master Sanitation Schedule's success are key aspects. This position is critical to sustaining a safe, clean, and audit-ready environment.

Primary Duties

• Clean floors, walls, drains, and surfaces with mops, brooms, scrapers, and scrubbers.
• Operate equipment such as tunnel washers, rack washers, and floor scrubbers safely and effectively.
• Perform sweeping, mopping, wiping, and waste disposal in designated areas.
• Restock gowning supplies, soap, hand sanitizers, and gloves in production spaces.
• Adhere to Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
• Assist technicians with equipment cleaning and preparation tasks.

Compliance and Safety Responsibilities

• Handle cleaning chemicals safely following WHMIS guidelines.
• Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to health and safety policies.
• Promptly report any damaged equipment, leaks, or hazards.
• Take part in safety meetings and training.

Documentation and Support

• Complete required cleaning checklists and logs accurately.
• Maintain clean, organized workspaces to support audit readiness.
• Assist housekeeping staff with cleaning tasks in non-production areas during busy times.

Additional Information

Village Farms values teamwork and flexibility. The Associate may be called upon to support various operational tasks beyond sanitation to ensure smooth business activities from seed to sale. This role requires on-site presence at all times.

Shift: Afternoon shift from 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM.

Qualifications and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
• WHMIS certification is required or willingness to obtain.
• HACCP certification is advantageous.
• Previous experience in cleaning, janitorial, or sanitation positions is beneficial.
• Familiarity with operating floor cleaning equipment is a plus.

Physical Requirements

• Capable of lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying weights between 40–50 lbs frequently throughout the shift.
• Able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and climb for long durations.
• Lift up to 50 lbs when handling chemicals, tools, or equipment.
• Regularly use hands for cleaning tools, machinery, and computer operations.
• Frequent exposure to wet, hot, cold, noisy, and dusty workplace conditions (dust allergies contraindicated).
• Mandatory use of full PPE, including gloves, goggles, aprons, waterproof boots, and earplugs.
• Availability for occasional flexible shifts, weekends, and holidays depending on production requirements.
