Role Summary
This position provides key support to the bank’s climate risk and emissions strategies by refining Scope 3 emissions methodologies and tracking sector-specific climate targets. It entails scenario analysis, both internal and external reporting, and managing risks related to climate change—physical, transitional, and nature-related—while ensuring adherence to climate risk regulations across jurisdictions.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure climate risk governance, frameworks, and policies uphold the Group's credit ratings and reputation.
- Enhance and compute Scope 3 financed emissions methodologies and monitor sector-specific emissions pathways with interim targets.
- Assist in executing climate scenario analyses and effectively communicate outcomes; contribute to climate risk disclosures.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate physical, transitional, and nature-related climate risks.
- Implement KPIs and best practices to oversee climate and nature-related financial risks.
- Drive cost efficiency, productivity improvements, and benefit optimization for the bank.
- Support the Board with emerging scenario identification and related climate risk impact communications.
- Coordinate firm-wide adherence to risk frameworks, policies, and processes across international branches.
- Maintain well-documented risk procedures and policies fostering sound risk-taking.
- Collaborate with different departments to integrate climate and nature risks in business operations.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as a principal contact on climate and nature-related financial risk across the Group.
- Work with risk teams for implementing climate and nature risk frameworks and maintain SLAs with international entities for prompt delivery.
- Build and sustain effective relationships with internal units to meet Group objectives.
- Provide accurate data to auditors, compliance, financial control, and risk units when requested.
Internal Processes & Regulatory Compliance
- Support development of frameworks for measuring and managing financial risks from climate and nature perspectives, aligned with regulatory standards.
- Draft governance documentation and risk framework materials.
- Integrate climate risk into portfolio analysis, risk appetite, and ICAAP processes.
- Collaborate with credit and liquidity risk teams to enhance portfolio analysis tools.
- Review stress testing and scoring outputs; advise credit approvers on actions for high-risk customers.
- Contribute to sustainability and climate-related disclosures in line with IFRS S1 and S2.
- Develop deep knowledge of climate change drivers and financial risk implications.

Legal and Regulatory Responsibilities
- Adhere to all applicable laws, regulations, and internal compliance standards, including AML, sanctions, data protection, fraud control, whistleblower protection, and conflict of interest policies.
- Operate effectively under the Three Lines of Defence risk management framework.
- Ensure customer outcomes comply with Conduct Risk policies.
- Support operational risk management activities such as RCSA, KRI, incident reporting, and remediation.
- Maintain necessary knowledge and complete all mandatory trainings and seminars.
Additional Duties
- Safeguard data confidentiality and protect sensitive commercial information.
- Handle customer and internal information discreetly, sharing only on a need-to-know basis with senior management, auditors, compliance, and regulators.
- Uphold high professional standards to maintain QNB's market leadership and reputation.
- Perform other assigned duties as required by management.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Banking, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years' relevant banking experience in a managerial role, ideally within a renowned international bank.
- Hands-on experience in developing and enhancing climate and nature risk management frameworks, including net-zero initiatives.
- Professional certifications related to sustainability and climate risk (e.g., GARP Sustainability and Climate Risk) are advantageous.
