Position Overview
The University of Massachusetts Boston's Manning College of Nursing and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor position within the Department of Gerontology, commencing September 1, 2026. This role involves a broad research scope with a preference for candidates specializing in aging and health disparities, particularly in cognitive aging and dementia, economics and retirement, spatial analysis relating to social determinants of health, or applications of AI and digital technologies. Exceptional candidates with other research foci are also welcome.
Research Expectations
The appointee should demonstrate a proven ability or potential to obtain notable external research funding and contribute scholarly articles to prestigious peer-reviewed journals. They will be appointed as a Fellow of the Gerontology Institute and may also affiliate with the Center for Social and Demographic Research in Aging as well as the LeadingAge LTSS Center within the institute.
Teaching and Mentorship
The candidate will be responsible for delivering undergraduate, master's, or doctoral courses in Gerontology or associated academic programs. Additionally, they will mentor students through advisory roles on doctoral dissertations, comprehensive exams, and research practicums, actively involving students in research projects.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in gerontology, psychology, economics, social work, sociology, public policy, public health, human development and family studies, or interdisciplinary studies. Candidates from other doctoral disciplines will be considered.
