Role Overview
We are seeking an Analytics Engineer who will be responsible for managing the transformation processes that convert raw batch and streaming data into clean, reliable, and well-documented datasets. This involves constructing ingestion pipelines with Estuary, designing data models using dbt, and authoring efficient SQL and Python code on Amazon Redshift to deliver swift and accurate analytics with self-service capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain modular, tested, and documented dbt models across staging, intermediate, and marts layers; manage associated tests, macros, and materializations.
- Create and oversee real-time and batch data ingestion pipelines including Change Data Capture (CDC) from operational sources, addressing schema evolution, backfills, and resolving connector issues.
- Write high-performance SQL queries and design dimensional data models; optimize query and warehouse performance focusing on distribution/sort keys, workload management, and cost efficiency within Redshift.
- Automate data transformations, orchestration processes, develop custom dbt macros, and integrate APIs using Python.
- Implement data quality assurance by instituting tests, freshness monitoring, alert mechanisms, and maintain continuous integration/deployment (CI/CD) for analytics code via Git.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation and a consistent semantic layer to ensure single-source definitions for models and metrics.
- Collaborate with analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders to convert requirements into scalable, reliable datasets.
- Enforce governance including access controls, personally identifiable information handling, and compliance with data privacy standards such as GDPR and SOC 2.
Candidate Requirements
- At least 3 years of experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, or related roles.
- Expertise in production-quality SQL including window functions, Common Table Expressions (CTEs), and query performance tuning.
- Hands-on experience with production dbt implementations.
- Proficiency in Python for managing data workflows and automation tasks.
- Experience working with Amazon Redshift focusing on distribution and sort keys, workload management, and optimization.
- Familiarity with ELT/CDC ingestion tools such as Estuary, Fivetran, Airbyte, Debezium, or Kafka.
- Strong understanding of data modeling principles including Kimball dimensional modeling and star schema design.
- Comfort with Git-based version control systems and CI/CD pipelines.
- Authorization to work in Nigeria without requiring sponsorship.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with real-time streaming data and CDC architectures.
- Familiarity with orchestration tools such as Airflow, Dagster, Prefect, or dbt Cloud.
- Knowledge of business intelligence tools and semantic layers like Looker, Tableau, or Power BI.
- Experience with data observability platforms, e.g., Elementary or Great Expectations.
- Understanding of AWS services including S3, Glue, IAM, and containerization with Docker.
