This contract-based, hourly engagement involves serving as an Accounting Subject Matter Expert (SME) working remotely. The primary responsibility entails reviewing AI-generated responses related to accounting and finance or producing expert accounting content. The role focuses on assessing the quality of reasoning, validating step-by-step problem-solving approaches, and providing precise, written expert feedback.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess AI-generated solutions for accuracy, clarity, completeness, and compliance with provided prompts.
- Detect errors involving bookkeeping logic, journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, financial statement presentation, and controls.
- Fact-check technical accounting assertions to ensure correctness.
- Compose well-crafted explanations and model answers that illustrate proper accounting methods.
- Evaluate and compare multiple AI responses based on correctness and quality of reasoning.
- Create detailed prompts and gold-standard accounting deliverables such as journal entries, explanatory notes, checklists for closing, reconciliation logics, and scenario analyses.
- Test AI outputs to identify inaccuracies, misleading instructions, unsafe assumptions, biases, and validate their dependability across diverse business contexts.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent disciplines; professional certifications like CPA, ACCA, CMA, or equivalent are highly advantageous.
- At least five years of hands-on experience in accounting roles spanning public accounting, industry, shared services, or advisory sectors.
- Comprehensive knowledge of essential accounting domains including revenue/expense recognition, accrual accounting, prepaid and deferred accounts, fixed assets, basic inventory, payroll fundamentals, and tax considerations.
- Demonstrated expertise in preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end closing procedures with a focus on audit compliance.
- Sound understanding of financial statements—profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash flow—and typical classification and presentation challenges.
- Familiarity with internal control frameworks such as segregation of duties, approval processes, proper documentation, and readiness for audits.
- Ability to assess answers for internal consistency including correct sign usage, debit/credit treatment, timing and cutoff issues, and support through schedules, alongside practical business judgement.
- Strong command of English at minimum C1 level both in writing clear, organized explanations and following detailed instructions.
- Self-motivated, dependable, and capable of maintaining steady quality output in a remote, hourly contractor setting spanning multiple time zones.
- Experience in AI data training or annotation, accounting quality assurance, audit review, or technical accounting writing is preferred.
