Overview
This role entails executing general accounting functions guided by senior finance staff. The position contributes to advancing the organization's mission and vision.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage accounting tasks across various finance areas such as Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets, Insurance, Payroll, Program Accounting, Quality Assurance, Retirement Plans, and Treasury.
- Prepare and evaluate accounting documents, financial statements, and reports for accuracy and adherence to standards.
- Develop and analyze budgets, generating reports comparing planned and actual costs.
- Respond to inquiries from employees, vendors, and funding sources.
- Match invoices with purchase orders and verify supporting documents.
- Create journal entries and maintain Excel trackers for data management and software imports.
- Conduct preliminary account reconciliations and prepare audit schedules and special reports as assigned.
- Calculate cost allocations and monitor outstanding checks.
- Review employee time sheets for precision and appropriateness.
- Compile financial data for billing reports and ensure transactions comply with control policies.
- Support supervisors with presentation development and delivery.
- Investigate general ledger entries to identify discrepancies.
- Submit required reports and communicate progress to relevant parties.
- Maintain organized filing and perform sorting duties.
- Attend occasional business travel using personal or company vehicles.
- Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality, including availability for evenings and weekends as needed.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Preferred one year of relevant professional experience.
- Strong understanding of financial and accounting principles, especially relating to grant reporting and government regulations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and computerized accounting software, with data entry skills and 10 key experience.
- Effective communicator with strong presentation, verbal, and writing capabilities.
- Ability to meet deadlines and possess strong analytical skills.
- Valid California driver's license, dependable transportation, and compliance with auto insurance requirements.
- Successful completion and maintenance of criminal background check and credit history verification.
Physical Requirements
The job requires frequent sitting, manual dexterity, verbal communication, standing, walking, reaching, and occasional bending or crawling. The role involves lifting items up to 50 pounds occasionally. Vision requirements include close and distance focus, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and adjustment ability.
Work Environment
Work is primarily indoors with occasional exposure to outdoor weather. Noise levels typically range from low to moderate.
Schedule
The usual timetable is Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
